The Zambezi Law Trust is a non profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of law through research and professional legal training. The Trustees, desirous of promoting a culture of research excellence and advocacy of the highest standard noted the challenges currently preventing the achievement of this in Zimbabwe and in the region. A preparatory study has shown that the lack of a comprehensi
ve source of legal research was stunting the development of law. In main these observations motivated the Trustees to publish a peer reviewed academic journal primarily dedicated to publishing excellent legal research. The journal, called the Zambezi Law Journal also aims to promote knowledge of and research of legal issues of international concern. In furtherance of the goal of research, the Trust aims to establish a research institute within an institution of higher learning dedicated to research and the offering of law qualifications at certificate and diploma level. The observation on the need for legal training has led to a unique and ground-breaking line of training programs aimed at developing the lawyer and imparting relevant legal knowledge to other professions. With regards to legal training of other professionals this training regime demystifies the supposed complexities of the legal system and avails legal knowledge that would have been otherwise attainable from lawyers.
