The legend of the Burchell's coucal begins with a tale from long ago, during a severe drought in the African bush. The animals gathered to discuss their plight and decided to appeal to the gods for help

In response, the gods bestowed upon the Burchell's coucal the gift of calling out to summon the rain. From that day forward, whenever the coucal sang its iconic song, rain would soon follow, bringing relief to the animals and the parched land.

Over time, this legend intertwined with the fact that the coucal's call often precedes rainfall, leading to the bird being known as the "rainbird" across many African cultures.

While the bird's call itself doesn't bring rain, its association with impending rain has earned it a place in folklore as a harbinger of rain.

Looking up at the bright blue African sky, you could easily get lost in its vastness but on the horizon, the graceful circling of vultures stirs an eerie feeling.

Intuitively, one senses that something may be wounded, sick, or nearing the end of its life. These circling birds might guide you to extraordinary sightings and reveal the harsh reality of survival in the wilderness.

The wild Zambezi flows, feeding the land with life-sustaining water.

The water's surface mirrors the sky and reflects the imposing figures of elephants wallowing on the bank.

Glide silently over this wild waterway on a canoe while you take in the scenes of nature mixed with the sweet scent of water lilies and the earthy aroma of mud baking in the sun.
