🏆 Regional Battle Concludes: Team Zim Shines at COSSASA Games as Youth Olympic Prep Intensifies 🇿🇼Tanatswa Mugwidi tested himself against some of the best triple jumpers in the Southern African region ahead of the Youth Olympic Games, which kick off in 59 days! 🕒Fresh from a standout performance at the National Youth Games, Mugwidi claimed silver at the COSSASA Games, which concluded at Bulawayo’s White City Stadium on Wednesday.

After scooping a gold medal in the long jump with a leap of 6.98m, he finished second in the triple jump with a 14.58m mark. 🥇🏅Fellow Youth Olympic Games qualifier Prudence Kasuwa finished fourth in the discus throw with a personal best of 30.58m, proving her preparations for Dakar remain firmly on track. 💪🎯While South Africa put on a dominant display in the track and field events, Ropafadzo Muzondo grabbed another gold medal for Zimbabwe by sprinting to victory in the boys' 200m. 🏃‍♂️🔥 Zimbabwe also secured hard-fought silver medals in both the boys' and girls' 4x400m relays, finishing just behind South Africa. 🥈🏃‍♀️.

🇧🇼 Youth Olympic Games-bound Conor Grist 🇿🇼struck gold 🥇for Zimbabwe in the 17 years and over 800m freestyle event at the ongoing Zone IV Swimming Championships in Botswana.🏊‍♂️

Grist clocked an impressive time of 8:52.66, comfortably beating out swimmers from Botswana 🇧🇼 and Seychelles 🇸🇨, who finished in second and third place respectively.🇸🇳

Alexis Johnsen and Daniella Viki—who are also part of Team Zimbabwe for Dakar 2026—warmed up nicely for those upcoming Games.

The duo secured fourth and fifth place finishes respectively in the highly competitive 16–17 years category of the 800m freestyle.

🥉 Johnsen then showed incredible stamina by returning to the pool to claim a brilliant bronze medal in the 100m backstroke.

🇿🇼 Zimbabwe's medal tally continued to soar in the backstroke events.

Kaylea Rogers secured a stellar silver medal 🥈 in the 100m backstroke, while Acacia Watson joined her on the podium to claim bronze 🥉.

In the boys’ category, Wade Cameron won bronze 🥉in the 100m backstroke.

🥈 The success continued in the sprint events as Amaranthine Dunkley grabbed a silver medal in the girls' 13–14 years 50m breaststroke.

🏆 It has been an incredibly strong opening day for Zimbabwe, setting a dominant tone for the rest of the championships.

On a thrilling Day 2 at the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA) Games, host nation Zimbabwe turned up the heat 🔥, dominant across both the track and the court.

Netball Queens Edge Out South Africa
In an absolute nail-biter at White City Stadium 🏟️ Zimbabwe’s Under-17 netball team displayed incredible grit to defeat regional heavyweights South Africa 39-36.

The victory, which marked the young ladies' second consecutive win of the tournament, was a masterclass in defensive pressure and clinical shooting under an appreciative home crowd.

🏃🏾‍♂️Muzondo Blazes to Track Gold 🥇

Over on the track, the spotlight fell squarely on teenage sensation Ropafadzo Muzondo.

Fresh from inspiring the Zimbabwe Under-20 relay 4x400m team to the finals at the recent World Athletics Under-20 Championships, Muzondo showed his class.

Running with the poise of a seasoned professional, he blew the field apart on the home straight to capture a magnificent gold medal in the boys' 400m race.

Muzondo's golden exploits were matched by 🏃🏾‍♀️🥇Thembelihle Ncube, who ran an equally dominant, tactically perfect race to claim gold in the girls’ 400m division, securing a spectacular quarter-mile sweep for the host country.

The distance runners refused to be left out of the party. Jackson Nyamazana dug deep into his stamina reserves during the grueling boys' 3500m final.

Spurred on by the cheering spectators, Nyamazana managed to secure an authoritative victory, completing a highly successful, multi-medal haul for Zimbabwe on the second day of competition.

Host Zimbabwe Dominates Day 1 of COSSASA Games in Bulawayo

Host nation Zimbabwe got their 2026 Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA) Games campaign off to a flying start today, securing dominant victories over Namibia on day one of the regional tournament.

Taking full advantage of home turf at White City Stadium, Zimbabwe set the tone early in the ball games proving why they are formidable contenders in this year’s edition alongside South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini.

The highlight of the opening day belonged to the Zimbabwean under-17 netball team, who put on a clinical masterclass on the court. The hosts completely outpaced their Namibian counterparts, cruising to an emphatic 48–19 victory to open their account in style.

The success carried over to the football pitch, where Zimbabwe’s under-18 boys delivered a disciplined performance. They maintained a tight defense and found the back of the net twice, sealing a comfortable 2–0 win over Namibia to secure three crucial opening points.
