As the water in the seasonal pans in the woodland dry out, more of the mobile species (like zebra, buffalo and elephant) are making their way into the Karangoma area. These photos are from guide BT Slade Gabototwe.

Nothing to see here. Just a wild dog pack resting on a quiet road between hunts. We've been lucky with wild dog sightings at Camp Hwange over the last 6 months, enjoying regular viewing of 2 different packs. This is yesterday afternoon's sighting.

Did you know that more than 60% of lemur species are nocturnal? How about these two sightings right at the Masoala Forest Lodge beach house one night last week! In the first video a Geoffroy's dwarf lemur has a face off with a tree boa right above the beach bon fire. In the second video a northern grey bamboo lemur enjoys an early evening feed from the bamboo growing near the main area.

RARE SPECIES ALERT

This is a Brown-tailed Vontsira, Madagascar’s most rarely seen and least known carnivore. Photos taken at Masoala Forest Lodge this week by our guest Cecile Montforte. We have just a few sightings a year and each one is really exciting.

Summer has been good to our resident sable herd with a healthy crop of calves around. We're seeing them regularly in the teak woodland at the moment, a real treat of the landscape in Hwange.

Camp Hwange in the Okavango? It's been amazing to have so much water and so many lilies around this year after the summer rains. It's at times like these that the uniqueness of the Camp Hwange concession (in Zimbabwe 😉) really comes into full focus. It's position between the teak forest covered Kalahari sands to the south, and the more rugged mopane woodlands to the north means it is actually a grass covered depression that has a fantastic collection of natural vleis that this year are verdant and full to the brim.

Yesterday's underwater haul from Jessie Jordan after a short snorkel right in front of Masoala Forest Lodge. We didn't know where to start here so just uploaded a mix of corals, sponges, nudibranchs, colourful fish, morays and rays.

Muddy Teak ... as per an interview with one of our founders ...

"It opened last year and is an exclusive-use camp with just four tents. ... luxury isn’t a Louis Vuitton bag. It’s the freedom of time and space and autonomy. At Muddy Teak, you’re not constrained to a schedule or itinerary. You can skip the morning game drive or decide to eat lunch out in the bush or stay up watching the animals that gather around the camp’s water hole. You are on your own schedule and don’t have to share it with anyone except who you choose.”
