A little glimpse of life at Hwange Safari Lodge…

From the warm welcome you receive from our attentive team when you arrive, to enjoying a drink at the bar, spending a leisurely afternoon relaxing around the lodge, or heading out into the bush for a sundowner, it’s all about taking some time out to relax, unwind and enjoy being away from the usual day-to-day routine.

Whether you’re joining us for a few days or simply stopping over on your travels, we look forward to welcoming you to our little corner of Hwange.

If ever there was a time our pool looked particularly inviting, it would have to be right now!

With the October heatwave in full swing, we can’t think of a much better place to spend an afternoon than cooling off in the pool.

We are sure you would all agree.

If you’ve ever visited Hwange in October, you’ll know it’s not for those who do not like the heat.

The landscape is incredibly dry, temperatures are climbing, and just about every animal is looking for a little shade or somewhere to cool off.

It’s one of the most interesting times of year to be here, particularly as the dry season draws to a close and we wait for those first proper summer rains. And although it may be one of our hottest months, it’s also one of the best for game viewing, with wildlife gathering in their droves around the waterholes in search of precious water.

So, while we might all be looking forward to a little rain and some cooler weather, there’s certainly something special about Hwange at this time of year!

October in Hwange… and everyone is looking for water.

The days are hot, the bush is dry, and the waterholes are getting busier by the week. There is usually something worth keeping an eye out for, especially when the elephants decide to arrive!

Game drive time!

One of the best parts about staying with us is being able to head straight out into Hwange National Park.

Some drives you don’t quite know where to look because there is so much going on, and others you have to be a little more patient. But then you go round a corner and find this in the road ahead of you…

Definitely worth packing the camera for.

A little bit of what a stay at Hwange Safari Lodge looks like…

Days out exploring Hwange, plenty of time spent watching to see what turns up, meeting some of the people who make this part of Zimbabwe so special, and of course, coming back to the lodge at the end of it all.

There’s a lot more to a few days here than just what you spot on a game drive. And we think this video sums that up rather nicely.

If you’ve been to Hwange before, you’ll know exactly what we mean. And if you haven’t… perhaps it’s time?

The part of a safari holiday we probably don’t show you enough… where you actually get to put your feet up.

After an early morning game drive, or a few hours out in the Hwange heat (especially this time of the year!), coming back to a cool room, a shower and a very comfortable bed is rather welcome.

Our rooms at Hwange Safari Lodge have everything you need to settle in, switch off for a while and get ready to head out again.

Although, with the bush quite literally outside your window, you may find yourself spending quite a bit of time looking out there too.
