For over 150 years, this historic Quarantine Station was the first stop in Australia for many migrants beginning new lives after long and often difficult ocean journeys. Ships carrying passengers suspected of contagious diseases such as Spanish Influenza, Smallpox, and Bubonic Plague were quarantined here to protect the growing Sydney community -leaving behind stories of resilience, sacrifice, love, and change.
On our Quarantine Wander History Tour, step into the Wharf Precinct, the heart of the site’s history. Wander through heritage buildings and uncover the lived experiences of those who arrived in search of hope and a fresh start, and the impact they left on Australia’s social and medical history.
