🏆 A little more good news from the Lazy Lizard!
We are delighted to share that the Lazy Lizard Motor Inn has been recognised in the 2026 Star Ratings Gold List of Australian Accommodation, in the Queensland Motels category.
What makes this recognition particularly special is that it is based on the ratings and experiences of guests who have actually stayed with us.
Alex and I have always believed that good accommodation does not need to be complicated. Clean, comfortable rooms, peaceful surroundings and genuinely looking after our guests are what matter most to us.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has stayed with us, returned for another visit or taken the time to leave a review.

It’s a pretty special recognition, and one that means a lot to us.

11 years ago today, we took a leap of faith and became the proud owners of The Lazy Lizard. 🦎
(This photo was taken not long after we began the adventure... smiling, excited and blissfully unaware of just how much we were about to learn!) 😄
Since then, we've had the privilege of welcoming thousands of guests from around the world, making lifelong friendships and creating a business we're incredibly proud of.
It hasn't always been easy. There have been cyclones, floods, a global pandemic, countless maintenance jobs, plenty of early mornings, late nights and more than a few "what do we do now?" moments.
But there have also been countless laughs, wonderful guests and the satisfaction of creating a place where people can truly relax.
Over the years, our goal has remained simple: to provide a clean, quiet and comfortable place to stay, where guests know exactly what to expect and can simply enjoy their holiday.
To everyone who has stayed with us, supported us, recommended us or simply stopped by for a chat—thank you. You have all been part of The Lazy Lizard story.
Here's to the next years... and maybe just a little therapy along the way! 😄🌴

Great news to wake up to today (11 May 2026).
Port Douglas has been recognised as Australia’s #2 tourism town in Australian Traveller’s 2026 100 Best Towns to Visit, and named the country’s top destination for Adventure & Nature.
It’s a strong result for the region and reflects what visitors experience here every day—easy access to the reef and rainforest, and a destination that consistently delivers.
The announcement comes as Tourism Port Douglas Daintree and local operators are attending the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE), showcasing the region to international travel buyers and media.
In a competitive global tourism market, recognition like this reinforces what we already know—Port Douglas offers a reliable, high-quality experience that continues to attract travellers looking for nature, simplicity, and a place to unwind.
