It all began in 1929, when the visionary Constance Vidal built Jonah’s, creating a haven perched above the stunning Whale Beach. At a time when Sydney’s motorcar culture was just taking off, road trips were becoming a new passion and travellers were seeking scenic stops to rest, refresh, and soak in breathtaking views. Jonah’s was perfectly positioned to capture that spirit, offering sweeping ocean vistas that have enchanted guests for generations.

As Australia embraced the Roaring Twenties’ optimism and the excitement of modern motoring, Jonah’s became more than a stopover — it was a destination, a place to savour food, drink, and life’s finer moments. Nearly a century later, this legendary retreat continues to welcome visitors from near and far, including some famous faces such as screen icon Sir Anthony Hopkins, who was swept away by the magic of Whale Beach.
