A gentle reminder about accessibility at the Wandering Dog Inn.

๐ŸŒผ We are currently not an accessible property
๐ŸŒผThose with special needs must self identify for assistance

The property has multiple stairs and steps. The driveway is gravel. Not all doors are brand new or standard width. Help us, help you. If we can accommodate, we will. If we can't, we'll be honest about that to ensure your safety and well-being.

What a week into race weekend!

Guests from Calamachie, Orillia, Guelph, K-W, Calgary, Echo Bay by way of Cottam and Leamington too, discovered Pelee for the first time and returned for the 11th time to run the half!

They considered cottaging, got some puppy love, raised 10k (โ€ผ๏ธ), got a front row seat, hit a personal best, lost their shirt and found a phone!

Congratulations to everyone who pushed themselves and ran or walked the Pelee Half Marathon! We'll see ya again next year! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Memorial Day weekend guests came from Fayetteville, Cleveland, Toronna x 6, and Ilderton! The rain did what it does, the games got some good use, and a Hail Mary or... Hail Tom๐Ÿค” got guests back on the road and around the island!

They understood the Mission (Hall), lingered at the point, saw some birds, even a snake, biked the East shore, celebrated an anniversary and got the T-shirt to prove it!

Thanks Pelee Motors for some life saving measures on city tire๐Ÿ˜ฌ

The bad news is we only have about 5 rooms left for weekends in July and August. The good news is, June has some good availability and still some mid week spots available. Book online, well in advance, any time at your convenience!

As we head into summer, now is a good time to remind you all of a basic house rule at The Wandering Dog Inn.

When we took a left turn out of corporate yuck, we decided we'd make our own rules. Our lawyer said we needed a policy to refuse entry or to remove people. Fair.

Our "No Jerks" policy seems to cover the most basic of bases and has come in handy over the years on the very odd occasion when we've encountered a jerk.

While life may be short, it isn't so short that you can't wait your turn at the buffet, let a snake cross quietly across your path, or let someone walk out a door before you ram yourself through it.

It's the little things, really. Don't be a jerk and we'll let you come back ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘

Summer has finally arrived and it's a good thing too!

Victoria Day has changed a bit around here over the years. From picking up empties to counting birds, we've come a long way, baby.

Put out that Virgina Slim and pop a gummie.

This weekend, guests spotted a Summer Tanager, listened to a coupla cuckoos and chased it with a slow summer read in the shade.

Guests from London, Burlington, Toronto, Blenheim, Quebec City, Delaware, The 'Row, and Brantford spent the official kick off to summer with us on Pelee Island.๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thanks Matthew and Nature Quest Tours for bringing this lovely group to Pelee Island to get an interrupted view of Spring Migration in the middle of Lake Erie in this designated Important Bird Area.

So nice to see some familiar faces that return year over year and really great to meet so many new people that are absolutely excited about Pelee Island!

They hit the points, sipped the local fermented grapes, and did a little 'woodcocking' in the evening all while KJ worked on his new island business idea!

Woof It or Hoof It Pup Cab is currently in its planning stages and will be open by tomorrow๐Ÿพ

What could wrong? ๐Ÿ‘€

Thank you Mike Kent and Quest Nature Tours for exploring "The Other Pelee" this week!

This group recorded 84 species with the Indigo Bunting being a crowd fave.

Both ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ bird lovers were up and out the door before dawn and hit the Florian Diamante Wetland Complex, Fish Point, Lighthouse Point, Lake Henry, the Ivey Property with a special stop at the Atwood-Gibson Bird Centre!

Thanks to fellow Islanders who slow down and look out for birders just trying to get their shots, and special โ™ฅ๏ธ to the Westview Tavern for working with us on custom meal plans.

Happy Sunday ๐Ÿฆ

Hunters / Birders. Same, same.

Follow me for a minute...

In Spring we welcome birders from all over North America and in Fall we welcome pheasant hunters.

Now, even if the tools of the trade are a tad different, there are more similarities than I think either group would like to admit.

๐Ÿ•” up at dawn to get the best spot
โ›ˆ๏ธ Will go out in any weather to get the best shot
๐ŸŒฟ Both are generally stewards of the land and support conservation
๐Ÿšจ Will stop directly in the middle of the road at any time to follow their bird
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ20k steps a day through field and forest? No problem
๐Ÿงฅboth have a distinct, identifying wardrobe

Birding has emerged as an elevated past time for people who can be still, listen and participate in citizen science. Despite perhaps an age old myth, they are not all "cheap, cheap, cheap". They travel the WORLD to see the birds they love, and that 2 foot camera lens costs more than your F-150.

People hunt for different reasons, and even if you don't agree with it, it is a legal activity and useful in the Zombie apocalypse. Hunters go through perhaps the MOST scrutiny to be legally licensed and carry fi****ms responsibly.

Both birding and hunting are an important part of the heritage of Pelee in Island and they have coexisted forever.

We have found there are fine people in both groups even if they scratch their heads at each other.

All are welcome, unless you're a jerk ๐Ÿ˜‰
