🍂🧡 HAPPY THANKSGIVING WEEKEND, EVERYONE! 🧡🍂

Today, we just want to take a little time to reflect back on our camping season and say a BIG, heartfelt THANK YOU to all our wonderful guests who helped make this little hidden gem of ours sparkle and come alive over the summer months! 🏕️🌊💙

From the bottom of our hearts, we are truly grateful for each and every one of you who pulled through our blue gate, shared a story, enjoyed the views, made memories, and became a little part of our A Day’s Getaway family. 🥰

As a small, family-run campground, it means more to us than words can say to see our little piece of paradise enjoyed by so many wonderful people. You all helped make another season special, and we are already looking forward to welcoming you HOME again next summer! 💙🏕️

🇨🇦 This weekend is Thanksgiving here in Canada, and we want to send our warmest wishes to all our Canadian guests celebrating this weekend!

We truly hope you’re enjoying some good food, lots of laughter, and precious time with the people you love and cherish most. Gather around that table, enjoy the grub (and maybe a second helping 😉), and make those beautiful memories that you’ll carry with you long after the dishes are done!

NEWFOUNDLAND JUST MADE IT ONTO A MASSIVE BILLBOARD IN TIMES SQUARE! 🇨🇦🤯🎬

And Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett is helping put the province in the international spotlight!

A giant digital billboard in New York City features Hartnett dressed as a Newfoundland fisherman alongside the hilarious message:

🎣 “Visit Newfoundland and Labrador. All our fishermen look like this. Don’t yours?”

But here’s where the story gets even better! 👀

The billboard is promoting Netflix’s brand-new thriller Below, which was actually filmed in Newfoundland, and the provincial government reportedly didn’t pay a cent for the advertisement!

📺 Where to watch: Netflix, available to stream in Canada and internationally.

The six-episode series follows a Newfoundland fisherman, played by Josh Hartnett, whose small coastal community is terrorized by a mysterious creature lurking in the ocean.

The show features Newfoundland’s incredible landscapes, coastal communities and local culture, bringing a little piece of Atlantic Canada to screens around the world! 🌎❤️

From Newfoundland’s fishing communities to a billboard in the middle of Times Square, this is some pretty incredible exposure for the province!

Good Friday evening, our A Day’s Getaway family! 💙💛

Well… as many of you already know, we are officially CLOSED for the season. 🥹🏕️

But guess what?! Now that the campground has gone quiet, I can finally have a little fun in the kitchen and start trying out some new recipes for new goodies to offer at the campground next summer!😋

Today’s little experiment was a batch of Blueberry White Chocolate Scones 🫐🤍🍫

And let me tell you… they sure *look* good coming out of the oven! 😂 Now I just have to hope they taste as good as they look! 🤞😋

This recipe was inspired by a very special guest who stayed with us this summer. They surprised me with a beautiful scone from Karma Café in Newtown, and I have not stopped thinking about it since! ❤️ So, of course, I had to try making my own little campground version.

Who knows… maybe next summer you’ll be waking up at A Day’s Getaway to the smell of fresh-baked scones coming from the office! ☕🫐🏕️

And don’t worry , we aren’t going completely silent just because the gate is closed! 😂 You’ll still see a few posts popping up here and there throughout the fall and winter. There are already a few things happening behind the scenes, and I’ve got plenty of ideas rolling around in this head of mine! 😉

For now, I just want to say THANK YOU. ❤️

Thank you to every guest who pulled through our gate this summer, every family who came back, every new friend we made, every person who shared a laugh, a story, a meal, a sunset, or simply a few quiet moments with us.

You truly became part of our extended A Day’s Getaway family, and we are going to miss you all more than you know. 🥹💙

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

Good morning, it’s Wednesday. 🧡

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation -- a day to pause, remember, listen, and reflect.

And today, I can say something very personal…

As an Indigenous woman, I too was an Indigenous child who mattered. 🧡

I grew up in foster care, separated from my roots and from parts of my identity that I didn’t fully understand as a child.

But I was also incredibly fortunate.

I never grew up in a residential school. I grew up with a family who cared for me, and gave me the kind of love and kindness that every child deserves.

And because of that, I often think about the “what could have been” for so many Indigenous children who never had that opportunity.

Children who deserved to be loved.
Children who deserved to feel safe.
Children who deserved kindness.
Children who deserved to know that they mattered.

Today, as an Indigenous woman, a mother, and a small business owner and entrepreneur, I stand in solidarity with those who carry these stories, those who continue to heal, and those whose stories were never given the chance to be told.

There are still Indigenous people who experience unfairness, discrimination and unkindness in our world today. We cannot pretend those things don't exist.

But I also believe that acknowledging the truth, listening to one another, learning, and choosing kindness can help us move forward.

Today isn't about me telling someone else's story.

It's about remembering that every child mattered. Every child matters. And every child deserves love🧡

So today, I wear orange not only in remembrance, but as a reminder of the little Indigenous girl I once was — and of all the children who deserved so much more.

Every Child Matters. 🧡

Good Monday morning from A Day’s Getaway! ☕🍂

Well folks… here we are. ONLY 5 MORE DAYS until we close that little blue gate for the season. 😭💙

I’m not quite sure where the summer went. One minute I was opening the gate and wondering what kind of camping season we were going to have, and the next thing I know, the leaves are changing, the mornings have a bite to them, and I’m counting down the final days. 🍁

But before we officially tuck ourselves away for the winter, we’re still welcoming campers! 🏕️

If you’re still out exploring the beautiful Kittiwake Coast and Route 330, come on by and spend a night or two with us. Whether you’re a planned reservation or one of those Newfoundland-style *“sure, we’ll see where the road takes us”* drop-ins… you’re welcome here. ❤️

🕕 Gate closes at 6:00 PM

If you happen to roll in after 6 and the gate is closed, don’t turn around and drive away😂 Just give the phone number on the gate a call, and we’ll see what we can do.

We may be winding down for another season, but there’s still plenty of beauty out here --crisp fall air, changing leaves, quiet evenings, and those sunsets that seem to show off just because they know their audience. 🌅🍂

So if you’re still out there chasing a little more camping before the snowflakes decide to make an appearance… come chase it our way. 😉

🌞 Good Sunday Morning from A Day’s Getaway! 🍁☕️

Well folks… here we are.

Just 6 more days until we close that little blue gate of ours for the 2026 camping season. 💙

I honestly don’t know where the summer went. One minute we were opening the gate and getting everything ready for another season, and the next minute I’m looking at the calendar thinking, “Surely that can’t be right!” 😂

But what a summer it has been.

We’ve welcomed so many wonderful people through our gate this year. Folks from near and far… some travelling through Newfoundland, some coming specifically to find us, some returning again, and some who had never heard of A Day’s Getaway until they happened to stumble across our little piece of the Kittiwake Coast.

We’ve shared stories, laughs, sunsets, campfires, muffins, soup, and plenty of Newfoundland weather. 😆

We’ve watched people settle into their sites, relax, explore, meet their neighbours, take pictures, walk the shoreline and simply enjoy a slower pace for a little while.

And that’s really what makes me love this place so much.

It’s not just the camping. It’s the people. ❤️

Every camper who pulled through that gate became a little part of our 2026 story.

Some stayed a night.
Some stayed a week.
Some came back more than once.
And some left as folks we hope to see again down the road.

For a little campground with only 11 sites, we sure have collected a whole lot of stories. ❤️

And now… Nature is reminding us that our season is coming to an end.

🍁 The leaves are changing.
🥶 The nighttime temperatures are dipping into frost territory.
🌫️ The mornings have been wrapped up in some pretty heavy fog.
🌅 And even the sunsets have started looking completely different.

Last night’s sunset?

WOW. Just WOW. 😍

It was one of those Newfoundland fall sunsets where you really should stop whatever you're doing and take a minute to look at it.

You know the kind…

The kind where you think, “Well, somebody up there sure showed off tonight.” ❤️🌅

Today, though, is going to be a little quieter around here.

Today is a REST DAY. ☕️

And because of that, I just wanted to let everyone know that A Day’s Getaway is RESERVATIONS ONLY today.

🚫 We are NOT taking drop-ins today.

If you have a reservation, you're still welcome and we’ll be here for you. ❤️

For everyone else, we’re going to enjoy a slower Sunday, take a breath, have a cup of coffee, and soak in these final few days of our season.

Six days.

That’s all that’s left.

And while I’m looking forward to a little rest myself, I’m also going to miss opening that gate each morning and wondering who’s going to pull in today. 🥹

But we’ve got 11 little campsites, a whole lot of nature, some pretty spectacular sunsets, and a whole bunch of heart. ❤️

And apparently… enough Newfoundland fog to keep everybody guessing where the ocean disappeared to. 😂🌫️

We wish you well and new journeys Tony and Crystal! You both did an outstanding job managing Windmill Bight Park. Thank you for all the support and encouragement you have shown towards our lil campground. When businesses work together and support one another it makes the kittiwake coast shine much brighter and helps each other grow!

To Our Windmill Bight Family — With Enduring Love & Eternal Gratitude🏕️🥰
As the leaves turn and the quiet autumn calm settles over the land, with only 5 days left to our lease it’s time for us to pack up, lock the gates, and say our goodbyes for the season. But as we step back and take one last look around, this closing feels deeply sad because this marks the end of our chapter as your operators at Windmill Bight Park.
(hopefully we will be back next season)
Putting our hearts and souls into this place has been one of the absolute greatest honors of our lives. When we first started this journey, we hoped to build a space where people could relax, unwind, and feel at home. We never could have imagined that in doing so, we would find a second family in all of you.
You were never just campers, guests, or visitors to us you became our extended family. Every chat we have had, the laughs, the hugs,the bonds our kids made with you all,
Every quiet morning wave, every cheerful chat across the campground, every shared laugh by the water, and every cozy campfire light that flickered in the dark added another thread to the rich tapestry of memories we will hold onto for the rest of our lives. You embraced us, supported us, and opened your hearts to our family in ways words can never truly express.
We want to share our deepest heartfelt thanks to the Town for trusting us with this absolute gem of a park. Having the opportunity to care for Windmill Bight once again has meant the world to us. It was a true privilege to be entrusted with this special piece of our community, to breathe life into a wonderful season, and to hold the keys to a place that means so much to so many.
Thank you to every single person who walked through our gates:
Thank you for filling this park with so much warmth, music, light, and genuine joy.
Thank you for your kindness, your encouragement, and the love you showed us and our family every step of the way.
Thank you for making every long hour,every sweat and tear worth every moment, and for turning this beautiful park into a place overflowing with soul and sweet memories.
It is because of each and every one of you that this season was an absolute gift. You gave us memories that time can never fade and a profound gratitude that will stay with us forever.
As we pack up and step into our what’s next,we leave behind a huge piece of our hearts right here among the trees, the ocean breeze, and the beauty of Windmill Bight. We will carry your stories, your smiles, and your friendship with us wherever we go. And we hope you all come back to windmill bight park and enjoy all it’s beauty for seasons yet to come☺️
