Hi, Judy is here. 💛

Sometimes, late in the evening after guests have gone to their rooms and the Inn becomes quiet again, I like to walk slowly through the Gallant House and imagine all the stories these walls have witnessed since 1880.

The soft creak of the wooden floors.
The glow of the lamps against the old windows.
The feeling that history still lives here somehow.

The Gallant House was built by Joseph Gallant, a successful local merchant and farmer whose vision and determination helped shape this part of Rustico. In those days, homes like this were rare on Prince Edward Island. Elegant Second Empire architecture, handcrafted details, beautiful rooms designed for gathering family, welcoming visitors, and celebrating life together.

Over the years, generations passed through these doors. Conversations were shared around the table. Music drifted through the halls. Families built memories here. When Gary and I began restoring the Gallant House, we knew we weren’t simply renovating an old building. We were preserving a piece of Island history and continuing its story for future generations.

Today, guests from around the world come here searching for something they often cannot quite describe at first. And then, after a few days, they begin to understand it.
It’s the feeling of slowing down.

Last summer, a mother and daughter arrived at The Barachois Inn with a very special dream. 💛

For years, they had talked about visiting the birthplace of Anne of Green Gables together. The mother had grown up reading Anne’s stories as a little girl, and later shared those same books with her daughter before bedtime. What started as pages in a book slowly became something much bigger — a promise to one day experience Anne’s Island side by side.

When they arrived in Rustico, I could see the excitement in their eyes.

The next few days became more than a vacation.
They walked the red clay roads together.
They visited Green Gables and laughed about their favourite Anne moments.
