A LITTLE PIECE OF BAILEY

The response to The Bailey Chronicles has been wonderful. So many people clearly love Bailey, and that gave us an idea.

We’ve created a Bailey 3"x3" high quality magnet as a small keepsake for those who have followed her story or met her during a stay at Keltic Quay. We’ll have some available here for future visitors, but first, we’re giving five away and mailing them anywhere in North America.

You probably don’t think of Whycocomagh as a shopping destination, but The Farmer’s Daughter Country Store might surprise you. Just up the road from Keltic Quay, their gift shop has plenty to browse, including these new Frye & Co. boots. It’s an easy stop to work into your stay and another good reason to explore a little closer to home.

Sometimes the best finds are the ones you weren’t expecting. 😀

Bailey Keeps One Eye on the Cottages

She loves the end of the dock — the water, the quiet, all of it. But she doesn't sit facing the lake for long. Every few minutes she turns back toward the cottages, like she's checking to see if anyone's walking down to join her.

That's Bailey's whole thing at Keltic Quay Cottages & Bayfront Lodge. She'll hold her spot on the dock, but she's always half-watching the path, just in case today's the day.

"She has strong feelings about the geese"

Bailey has never once ignored a goose, and this particular afternoon gave her several dozen to keep an eye on. The geese, for their part, remained completely unbothered.

We sit right on the Bras d'Or Lake Biosphere Reserve, so the view changes with the season — and on a good fall evening, it's the kind that makes everyone stop talking mid-sentence. Everyone except Bailey. She had geese to watch.

Nobody has ever won a staring contest with a goose. She keeps trying anyway.

"Personal space is a concept she's heard of"

This is what six a.m. looks like when you share a cottage with Bailey. She has never once knocked.

Mornings here are usually quiet — coffee on the deck, the water still, everybody half awake. Bailey treats all of it as an invitation to get closer than strictly necessary.

We've stopped calling it a habit. It's just how she says good morning.

Bailey does not walk a trail so much as investigate it. Every root, every puddle, every mysterious stick gets a full inspection before she allows the hike to continue.

We sit right at the edge of the Cabot Trail, so real hiking is minutes from your door — and whatever Bailey finds along the way, she brings back like she's the one who discovered it.

She has never once returned from a walk empty-mouthed.

Do not let that face fool you. Bailey has been studying this board for a very long time and she is absolutely convinced she is about to win.

On quieter evenings here at Keltic Quay, the lodge comes alive — cards, chess, shuffleboard, a fire going in the background. Bailey considers herself an essential part of all of it. Mostly she supervises. Occasionally she naps on the pieces.

She has never lost a game she was willing to admit to.

"She has no shame and we love her for it"

We hosted a lovely wedding party at Keltic Quay last fall and it was a beautiful evening. At some point during the celebration, Bailey quietly assessed the situation, located the finest fabric in the room, and made herself at home right on the bride's dress. She didn't ask permission. She didn't apologize. She slept like an angel.

The bride, to her enormous credit, thought it was the best thing that happened all night. We're inclined to agree.
