Announcing a new investment for We’koqma’q: Keltic Quay

Chief and Council are pleased to announce that, as of October 1, 2026, We’koqma’q L’nue’kati officially acquired Keltic Quay, an established tourism and hospitality business located on the Bras d’Or Lakes in the Village of Whycocomagh.

Located in We’koqma’q’s ancestral and claimed territory, the investment reflects Chief and Council’s continued vision to build a strong, self-sustaining economy by investing in successful local businesses and creating new opportunities for Community.

Keltic Quay joins a growing portfolio that includes investments in Clearwater Seafoods, Glenview RV Park & Campground and Skye Communications.

The investment also contributes to a broader vision for a growing Indigenous tourism market, gathering and connection to the land.

Today, we honour residential school Survivors, the children who never came home, and their families.

Here in Whycocomagh, we share a love for this land and its waters. We hold our neighbours in We’koqma’q, and Indigenous communities everywhere, in our thoughts on this day of remembrance.

There’s something about waking up next to the water.

The sun comes up over the bay. Coffee tastes a little better out on the deck. And by supper time, there’s not much wrong with throwing something on the BBQ and watching the evening roll in.

If you feel like getting out there, grab one of our kayaks, canoes or pedal boats. They’re free for our guests. If you’d rather stay on dry land, wander over to the lodge for a game of pool or shuffleboard, or just find a comfortable spot to sit for a while.

Some days you head out and explore Cape Breton. Some days the view from the deck is plenty.

From the fiery reds of the Cabot Trail's northern tip to the golden hues rolling through the Bras d'Or Lake shoreline, every corner of the Island puts on its own show this October. Whether you're chasing crimson ridgelines or amber coastal trails, there's a peak window for every leaf chaser!

You might expect colours to peak north to south as cooler weather moves in, but it's actually the opposite here. After years of observation, we know forest type, elevation and temperature all play their part in this south-to-north progression.

A Fine Time to Be in Cape Breton

There’s something about fall in Cape Breton. The mornings get cooler. The hills start changing colour. The roads get quieter, and the whole island seems to slow down a little.

It’s a good time to come our way. Bring the dog. Settle into a fully equipped suite. Take a kayak or canoe out on the water. Spend the day wandering the island, then come back to Keltic Quay and put your feet up.
