The Sennheiser MD 441-U is a dynamic mic with a supercardioid pattern, so it picks up mostly what it's pointed at and ignores a fair bit of the room. That makes it a good fit for a podcast recorded somewhere that isn't quiet, or for a guitar cab. It's a standard 3-pin XLR connection and comes with a mic clip and a carry pouch. No stand or boom arm in the case, so bring your own.
$50/day. Williams Lake, by appointment.

The Sennheiser MKH 416 is a sh***un mic that turns up on a lot of film and doc sets. It has a narrow pickup pattern, so it favours whoever you point it at over the room around them, and the capsule is moisture resistant for damp mornings outdoors. It runs on 48V phantom power over XLR. Pair it with the Zoom F6 if you need something to record to.

The ATH-M50x is what you want on your head while you're actually recording something. They're closed-back with 45mm drivers, and at 38 ohms they run straight off a laptop or an interface with no headphone amp in the chain. The seal is the reason to pick them over open-back: nothing leaks out of the cups into a microphone sitting a foot away. Three interchangeable cables come with them, a 3m straight for a desk and a coiled one for studio gear among them, plus the quarter inch screw adapter. If you're renting the Scarlett Solo as well, these plug into its front headphone jack for direct monitoring while you track.

The Scarlett Solo is the small interface for anyone recording one voice at a time. It has one XLR input on the back with 48V phantom power for condenser mics, and a quarter inch instrument jack on the front so a guitar or bass can go in direct. It records up to 24-bit/192kHz over USB-C, and on a current Mac there's no driver to install. The limit to know before you book is that it takes one mic: a vocal plus a DI guitar together is fine, two microphones is not. That's enough for a podcast episode or a voiceover take, and it's a cheap way to try a mic out before you buy one.

$20/day. Williams Lake, by appointment.

The Aputure MC Pro is a pocket-size RGB panel with more output and a bigger face than the standard MC. It does full RGB plus white from 2000K to 10000K, CRI is rated above 96, and the battery is built in. The back is magnetic, so it'll sit on a shelf edge or a door frame with no stand at all. Bluetooth control through the Sidus Link app helps once the light is somewhere you can't easily reach. It works as a small key for product shots, or as a colour accent on an interview in a room too tight for anything bigger.

The Aputure Accent B7c is a light bulb, which sounds underwhelming right up until you put it in the lamp that's already sitting in your shot. Standard E26 screw base, so it goes into any household socket. Tunable 2000K to 10,000K with full RGB on top, all of it from the app. On a set that means the practical in frame is something you control instead of something you work around. At an event it's a cheap way to get colour into a room without rigging a fixture on a stand.

$15/day. Williams Lake, by appointment.

The Amaran F22c is a 2x2 foot light that folds flat. It's a 200W RGBWW mat at CRI 95+, and the bare panel is soft enough on its own that plenty of people never bother with the included softbox. Where it earns its keep is tight spaces. Tape it to a ceiling or bend it around a doorframe, and it'll light an interview in a small office where a softbox on a stand has nowhere to go. The control box sits up to 6 metres off on the cables that come with it, so the fan stays away from your mic. Full 200W wants AC or a 26V V-mount; a 14.4V battery runs it at roughly half. Batteries rent separately.

$75/day. Williams Lake, by appointment.

The LS 600c Pro II is the biggest light we keep on the shelf. It's a 600W RGBWW COB on a Bowens mount, and with the Hyper Reflector that comes in the case it puts out 91,500 lux at a metre, which is what lets it hold up against daylight coming through a window. The lamp head is IP54 rated so dust and a bit of rain won't bother it. The control box isn't rated, so that one stays dry. The 7.5m head cable is the part people don't expect to like: you can rig the head high in a shop or an arena and leave the box and the battery down where you can actually reach them. No V-mount battery in the case, that's a separate line on your quote.

$150/day. Williams Lake, by appointment.

📡 Cut the cable to the client monitor.

The Hollyland Mars 400S PRO sends 1080p60 from your camera to a monitor, recorder or switcher up to 400 ft away with about 0.1s of latency. SDI and HDMI on both the transmitter and receiver, so you can go into it SDI and out to an HDMI monitor. Up to four phones can watch the feed on the Hollyview app, and one transmitter can feed two receivers. Handy for weddings, multi-cam events and anything running into our ATEM Mini Pro.

🖥️ See your exposure properly, and record straight to ProRes.

The Atomos Ninja V hangs off your camera's HDMI and records 4K ProRes, ProRes RAW or DNxHR to SSD, skipping the camera's internal compression. The 5" screen runs 1000 nits, so it stays readable outside, with false colour, focus peaking, waveform and LUT preview for Log footage. Works as a monitor only if you would rather not record to it. SSD and NP-F battery are not included — grab one of our Samsung SSDs when you book.
