There is a different rhythm to the house now.

The days are quieter.
The village is quieter.
And sometimes, after guests leave, the doors between the rooms and the rest of the house stay open a little longer.

There is no one arriving that afternoon.
No one leaving the next morning.

Sometimes a few days pass between guests.

And we slow down too.

There are things to catch up on.
Time for the garden.
A few outings.
And, after eight months without a proper weekend or a bank holiday, sometimes simply a few days to rest.

The Dordogne changes its rhythm at this time of year.
So does the village.
So do we.

And the people who come here are often looking for something different too.

Some of our guests choose this time of year precisely because they want more quiet and fewer people around.

The guests who left today did just that. They explored, enjoyed themselves, and found the slower pace they were looking for.

Perhaps that is one of the lovely things about this season.

The place changes.
The rhythm changes.
And the experience changes with it.

There is an enchanted path behind the house. We’ve shared it here before.

What I haven’t shared is what it means to me.

I walk it whenever I need to remember why we came here.

The light changes through the trees.
The leaves move in the wind.
Every season has its own scent.

Sometimes, I notice a patch of moss.
An old stone wall.
A fallen tree.

Floki is always fully present there.
She reminds me how simple joy can be.

I leave the path thinking a little less,
feeling a little more.

And every time, I remember that this was the life we were looking for.

A few months ago, we started sharing this path with our guests, so they too could wander and wonder.

A little village to wander through.

Saint-Cyprien is one of those places you can simply walk around.

No famous castle. No grand garden. No particular attraction you need to tick off your list.

Just beautiful old stone houses, little lanes, shutters, rooftops and the feeling of a real village.

On Sundays, there is a lovely market with local produce, cheeses, oysters and plenty of things to eat.

But we went on a Saturday.

No market. No agenda.
Just a walk around Saint-Cyprien.

And sometimes, that’s enough.

A few of the villages around us are perfect for exactly this kind of afternoon.

September is a month of change.

The days are getting shorter, but the cooler mornings and evenings are very welcome after the heat of summer.

The light changes too. It finds its way into the rooms differently, and the house seems to take on a slightly different mood.

In the garden, everything is still giving its last abundance before beginning to rest.

And the vine is having its moment. Heavy with ripe grapes, it attracts bees and birds who know exactly when the best of the season has arrived.

Here at Le Coin Tranquille, not much else changes.

We are still making breakfasts in the morning.

Guests are still arriving, discovering the Dordogne and enjoying the terrace — sometimes with a glass of something, sometimes simply watching the balloons pass overhead.

There may be fewer days for swimming now, but there are still castles to explore, villages to wander through, gardens to discover, and plenty of reasons to spend a day outside.

September feels a little quieter.

A little cooler.

And somehow, just as full of life. We like it very much.

After a day of exploring the Dordogne, there is usually a moment when nobody is in a hurry anymore.

A drink on the terrace.
A few pages of a book.
Something small to eat.
A board game.
A conversation that goes on a little longer than planned.

Sometimes guests sit outside until the light disappears.
Sometimes they simply find a quiet corner and slow down.

No plans. No sightseeing.
Just a little time to enjoy being here.

And somehow, these quiet moments become part of the holiday too.

A different way to cool down in summer.

A few weeks ago, we went to the Céou river.

The water is colder than the Dordogne, but incredibly clear, with little pools forming between the rocks where you can stop for a while, cool off and simply enjoy being there.

Surrounded by trees and the sound of running water, it feels like a completely different side of the Périgord.

One of those places we love discovering — and sharing with our guests when summer gets hot.

Like candied orange peel or homemade granola.

A little preparation, a little waiting, and quite a lot of care.

Today, they were getting ready for tomorrow’s breakfast.

You may have noticed the vine.

It grows just outside our house, above the little street leading to Le Coin Tranquille.

At this time of year, it is at its best — full of leaves, grapes and shade.

But this vine is more than just part of the house.

It is part of Le Coin Tranquille.

You’ll find it in our logo, on our website, on our cards, and even on the little biscuits we leave in the rooms for our guests.

A small detail that has somehow become part of our identity.

And every September, when the grapes are hanging above the street, we are reminded why we chose it in the first place.

A little bit of the garden, for our guests.

Every morning, we pick a few flowers from the garden and make a little bouquet for the rooms.

No two are ever quite the same.

Just a small touch of the season, gathered from our garden.
