The recent house fires in Ellistown and Measham have understandably caused concern across our communities. Whilst these were dealt with at the time the families will still be suffering in the aftermath.

We also have yesterday’s wildfire in Shepshed which remains an ongoing incident.

I want to thank Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and everyone involved for their swift response and hard work in keeping residents safe during these incidents.

With the current hot and dry weather, the risk of fires remains high.

Preventing fires is a shared responsibility, and I know Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is continuing its work to raise awareness of fire risks and safe behaviour during periods of extreme weather.

Please help keep our communities safe by:

🔥 Disposing of ci******es safely
🔥 Avoiding open fires and barbecues in high-risk areas
🔥 Taking litter home, especially glass bottles which can start fires in dry conditions
🔥 Reporting fires or signs of danger immediately
