Rumour has it that these trees were planted in the wrong place. The farmer, returning from holiday to see the work completed was dismayed to find the trees planted on a strip of his most fertile arable land, they should be growing on his waterlogged field on the other side of the track. The map was quietly turned around to show him that he had been looking at the map the wrong way up and had indicated the wrong spot! Suffice to say, on buying the farmhouse 12 years ago, we were delighted! The woods, a mix of beech, oak, hazel, birch and ash are home to a wonderful array of wildlife, which can be seen from the windows of the holiday cottage.
Now, there are buds on the branches and the whole area is full of bird song.
