Sandpiper's available for a few dates in October, and honestly if you've been thinking about a proper break, this one's worth looking at.

Lodge 45. Sleeps six. Open-plan layout. Island breakfast bar.

The wrap-around deck is an essential. You'll spend more time out here than inside. Hot tub fits four adults comfortably.

Your own fishing peg if that's your thing. Even if it's not, there's something quite nice about having your own bit of lakeside.

Dog-friendly, too because we know they need a break as much as you do.

But mostly, it's the kind of place where you arrive Friday afternoon and by Saturday morning you've forgotten what day it is. Which is sort of the point.

Wildlife of the Week: Grey Heron

Grey herons are proper fishing experts – that's what the stillness is about. They're waiting. Watching. The second something moves in the water, they strike.

We see them most mornings around the lakes. Usually the same spots – they're creatures of habit. Shallow edges where the fish come close. Sometimes you'll catch them in flight as captured here and they're surprisingly big.

The park's named after them for a reason. They've been here longer than we have, and they seem quite happy to share the space. Doesn't bother them if you're sitting out on your decking watching. They'll carry on doing exactly what they were doing.

Lodge 125 sits in one of the quieter corners of our Waterfall Lake, the sort of spot where you notice the heron before you hear your phone.

Two lounges. Not because one isn't enough, but because sometimes you want the vaulted space with French doors opening straight onto extended decking, and sometimes you want the bright, five-windowed room where the morning light comes in just right.

There's a small office space tucked away. Quiet. Private. For those moments when you need to finish something before you can properly switch off.

The main bedroom has an en-suite, king-sized bed, fitted wardrobes, the kind of setup that makes a weekend feel longer than it is. Second bedroom's a proper double. Family bathroom with separate bath and shower.

Early morning at the lakes and there's a heron standing in the shallows. Completely still. Been there for twenty minutes, just watching the water.

That's the thing about this place – the wildlife doesn't rush. Neither do you after a day or two.

We've got six lakes spread across the park, and each one's got its own character. Different birds, different light, different feel depending on the time of day. Moorhens potter about near the reeds. Ducks turn up with their ducklings in spring. The occasional kingfisher if you're patient enough and lucky.

The woodland walk takes you round the edge of the park, through the trees where it's properly quiet.

What people mention most when they leave is the silence. Well, not silence exactly, you can hear plenty if you're listening. Water lapping against the banks. Wind through the trees. Something plopping into the lake that you didn't quite see. But no traffic. No sirens. No background hum of being somewhere busy.

It's the sort of peace that reminds you what you've been missing without quite realising you were missing it.

The park's set up so you can be as active or as still as you want. Cycle into Beverley if you fancy a change of scene. Walk the nature trails. Fish from your own peg. Or just sit on your decking with coffee watching the light shift across the water.

That's the pace here. And after a few days, it becomes your pace too.

Hunters Lodge - your little slice of quiet, sat just off the Boating Lake 🌿

This one's for the people who want a proper break. Trees backing onto the lodge. Views of the boating lake from the wraparound decking. Private hot tub tucked away for those evenings when you've been out all day and just want to sit somewhere warm while the sun goes down.

Two bedrooms - king-size master with a walk-in wardrobe, twin room for the kids. Sleeps four (two adults, two children/infants). Family bathroom with shower over bath. Open-plan living and kitchen space with a Smart TV and Wi-Fi, though you'll probably spend more time outside than you think.

The decking wraps round. There's a dog-proof area if you're bringing the four-legged ones!

Scenic walks and cycle routes straight into Beverley from here - historic market town, independent places, lots of cafes and pubs to keep you going. The Lakehouse is in walking distance across the park too.
