POV: you visit the Peak District when the moors turn purple 💜

Heather season has arrived at Bamford Edge and it might just be one of the prettiest times of year to explore the Peak District.

Usually at its best throughout August and into early September, the purple heather completely transforms the landscape and Bamford Edge is one of our favourite places to see it.

🥾 Beautiful Peak District walking
💜 Miles of purple heather
⛰️ Incredible views across the Hope Valley and Ladybower Reservoir
📸 And some seriously good photo spots

And the best part? When you stay at Fieldhead Campsite in Edale, adventures like this are right on your doorstep.

Pitch your tent or cosy up in one of our glamping pods and make a proper Peak District escape of it.

Did you know you can get a bangers and mash pick ‘n’ mix in the Peak District? 🍴

Welcome back to Peak Pit Stops - our series where we share the best cafés, pubs and food stops across the Peak District.

This time we’re stopping at Ye Olde Nags Head in Castleton, a traditional 18th-century pub that’s the perfect place to refuel after a day exploring.

Their famous bangers and mash pick ‘n’ mix lets you create your own meal by choosing your favourite sausage and mash combination. From cheesy mash to black pudding mash, there’s plenty to choose from, and it’s all served in a giant Yorkshire pudding.

Whether you’ve spent the day exploring Castleton, walking Mam Tor, hiking Winnats Pass or discovering the nearby caves, this is a food stop you won’t want to miss.

📍 Save this for your next Peak District adventure.
