Date for your diary — Leek Night at The George!

Join us on Monday 9th November for leek judging, a raffle, a grand charity auction, and a great night of fun. Pea and pie will be served from 6:30pm.

Whether you’re entering your prize-grown leeks or just coming along to enjoy the evening, everyone is welcome — you don’t have to be green-fingered to join in!

All money raised will go towards the local OAP Christmas dinner and local charities. Please note: the auction, raffle and food are cash only.

A huge congratulations to The Old House at Home, on winning the UK Sustainability Hero Award this evening! 🌱🏆

We’ve had an incredible run at these awards over the past few years, winning the sustainability category twice, plus outstanding achievement award in 2024 and although we couldn’t quite make it three in a row, we’re genuinely delighted for this year’s very worthy winners.

The Old House at Home do some fantastic work, including providing a shared e-bike for staff, creating a cycle hub with repair facilities and e-bike charging, reducing single-use plastics through refill systems, reusing reclaimed materials and carefully monitoring their food waste, recycling and energy use.

Congratulations to the team, you should be extremely proud of everything you’re doing. 👏

Well done to every finalist across all of this year’s categories. Simply reaching the final and being invited to the Houses of Parliament is a fantastic achievement.

Finally, a very special thank you to everyone at PubAid for all the hard work that goes into organising these awards and for continuing to shine a light on the incredible contribution pubs make to their communities.

We’ll keep growing, reusing, recycling and looking for new ways to improve, our sustainability journey certainly doesn’t stop here!

We’re incredibly proud to have reached the final of the UK Sustainability Hero category for the third year running.

Of course, we would love to make it three wins in a row and add to the collection, but we’re already delighted to be recognised alongside such strong opposition:

Busy days ahead as we sort through this year’s harvest of apples, damsons, plums, beans, courgettes, chillies, tomatoes and medlars. 🍎🍅🌶️

Some will be served fresh, while the rest will be preserved, pickled, cooked, dried or transformed into something delicious for the months ahead.

Grown locally and absolutely nothing wasted. ♻️🌱
