This week we received a very special visit from decedents of our first custodian, Mr Frank Redfern.

Frank Redfern was tasked with care of Buxton's only showcave by the 6th Duke of Devonshire in the 1850s, opening to the public in 1853.

The cave remained under the care of the Redfern family until 1977. After a family tragedy, local conservation charity Buxton Civic Association re-opened the cavern, while Jessie Redfern (Granddaughter to Frank) oversaw from the neighbouring cottage for several years.

🚴 Cycling is one of the very best ways to explore the beauty of the Peak District National Park, with benefits for both mental and physical health. Its wonderful landscapes offer something for every type of cyclist, at all levels. Mountain bikers are well provided for, as are serious road cyclists, but there's definitely no shortage of inspiration for those of us who just want to dust off the cobwebs, see the sights, and factor in a café or pub stop!

🌿 Buxton-based Carina Humberstone has been encouraging others to explore the great outdoors for over 30 years and loves nothing more than riding her bike through the British countryside. 🌸 Bluebells are indicators of ancient woodland, thriving in woodlands that have existed for centuries. We have an outstanding bed of bluebells in Corbar and Gadley woods each May, but it is thought that only certain people are able to smell them, due to genetics!👃
