What lies beyond Door 114?

Sometimes, a hotel stay is simply about slowing down.

Room 114 is one of our Classic Double rooms in the Manor House - simple, spacious and full of character, with high ceilings, traditional sash windows and original features that give the room its own sense of place.

It’s an easy space to settle into: perhaps a glass of wine, something good to watch or read, and a little time to unwind before dinner - or after an evening out in Newbury.

And if you’d rather stay in, food and drinks can be ordered from the hotel bar to enjoy during your stay.

Sometimes, the nicest part of getting away is having nowhere else you need to be.

Did you know the story of Donnington Grove goes back more than 250 years?

In 1763, John Chute was commissioned to design Donnington Grove in the distinctive Strawberry Hill Gothick style - part of the early Gothic Revival movement in England.

Chute was a close friend of Horace Walpole and a member of his “Committee of Taste”, the group involved in creating the famous Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham.

That architectural influence can still be seen around Donnington Grove today, from its Gothick-headed windows to the distinctive porch tower and other details of the house.

So next time you walk towards the Manor House, take a moment to look up.

There’s rather more history above your head than you might realise. 👀

What lies beyond Door 304?

At the top of the Manor House, Door 304 opens onto one of our Executive double rooms - a spacious retreat with plenty of character, from its four-poster bed to a seating area made for slowing down.

After a day exploring the estate, heading out around Newbury or simply settling into your stay, this is the kind of room that invites you to put your feet up and let the day unfold at its own pace.

Perhaps with a crisp glass of wine in hand - enjoyed on arrival, before dinner, or while you take a little time to yourself.

Wine and other drinks are available to purchase from our hotel bar and can be brought back to your room to enjoy.*

A big thank you to Joe Hicks for choosing our Japanese Temple as the setting for this acoustic recording. It was a pleasure to welcome him to the estate and to see the Temple used in such a beautiful and creative way.

There’s no uniform at Donnington Grove… but every now and again, apparently we create our own. 😄

Today, members of our Reception, Events and Marketing teams all arrived at work wearing the same colour cues - completely unplanned.

No group chat. No dress code. Just an accidental bit of team coordination. 🤎

Maybe when you work together long enough, even the wardrobes start getting in sync…

You can walk the same path at Donnington Grove countless times, but somehow the view is never quite the same.

A change in the light, a spectacular sky stretching over the water, a few familiar feathered faces wandering into view… and suddenly it feels worth stopping for another look.

That is part of the charm of life on the estate - familiar surroundings, but always a slightly different moment to enjoy.

Sometimes, all it takes is a few minutes outside to notice it.
