With its high ceilings, elegant archway, beautiful fireplace and tall windows overlooking the estate, this spacious room offers a lovely blend of traditional country house charm and comfort.

Whether you’re here to explore Newbury and the surrounding countryside or unwind after a busy day of meetings, Room 201 makes a welcoming retreat to return to.

And when it’s time to slow down, its comfortable seating area invites you to make yourself at home. Whether that’s curling up with a good book or sharing a bottle of w**e purchased from our hotel bar, the choice is yours.

Did you know this lake began with the River Lambourn?

Long before Donnington Grove looked as it does today, the River Lambourn was already flowing through this landscape.

John Rocque’s 1761 map shows this land as agricultural, with the River Lambourn running through it.

As the estate developed in the 18th century, the river became part of the designed landscape and was widened to create the lake we see today.

More than 250 years later, the water remains one of the defining features of Donnington Grove - with the Manor House still looking out across it.

Another little piece of the estate’s history hiding in plain sight.

🏇 A big weekend at the races, with somewhere a little quieter to come back to…

Newbury Racecourse brings its Flat season to a close on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October, with two days of racing alongside its Oktoberfest celebrations.

Think an afternoon at the races followed by bierkeller atmosphere, bratwurst and oompah bands – a lively way to spend an autumn weekend in Newbury. 🍻

👨‍🍳 We’re hiring: Sous Chef

Are you an experienced chef ready to take the next step in your career - or an established Sous Chef looking for a varied role in a beautiful countryside setting?

We’re looking for a capable, hands-on Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at Donnington Grove and work closely with our Head Chef as second in command.

This is a role for someone who enjoys being at the heart of the kitchen - cooking, leading a team and helping deliver consistently good food across our hotel, golf, weddings and private events.

You’ll help lead day-to-day kitchen operations, take charge when the Head Chef is away and play an important part in maintaining high standards across preparation and service.

We’d love to hear from experienced Sous Chefs and Junior Sous Chefs, as well as experienced Chefs de Partie who are ready to take that next step.

This is a full-time role, approximately 40 hours across five days.

There’s something very special about this time of day at Donnington Grove, when the low autumn sun casts a golden glow across the estate and even the swans seem to slow the pace.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, British Food Fortnight is a great opportunity to shine a light on the produce, suppliers and food traditions we enjoy throughout the year.

At Donnington Grove, we’re proud to play our part by using British produce and supporting local suppliers wherever possible.

From British-farmed meat supplied by R.D. Johnson to fresh fruit and vegetables from local family business Fishers of Newbury, our kitchen works with quality ingredients and trusted suppliers.
