HAS THE DEFINITION OF GLAMPING SOMEHOW GOT LOST ALONG THE WAY?!
We’ve been doing this for almost 10 years now, and I genuinely think the word glamping has somehow gone through a game of Chinese whispers!
When we started The Paddock, our idea of glamping was very simple:
POSH CAMPING. 🏕️
And for me, that was the whole appeal. I’ve been camping since I was 15, so I know exactly what I love about camping… and exactly what I DON’T love!
The beauty of glamping is that you get to turn up without having to drag your tent, airbeds, sleeping bags, pillows, kitchen equipment and half your house with you.
Instead, you get a proper comfy bed, lovely bedding, loungers, a kitchen with everything you could possibly need and a few of those little luxuries that make camping feel a LOT more civilised.
But… you’re still camping!
Over the years I’ve stayed at loads of different sites and always tried to take the things I loved from each one and bring them back to The Paddock.
What I don’t quite understand is how we’ve now got places calling themselves glamping when you’re basically staying in a fully fledged house… just parked in a field!
That, to me, isn’t glamping.
That’s a house.
In a field. 🤷♀️😂
Glamping is supposed to be posh camping. You get the bed, the bedding, the comfy chairs, the kitchen, the little luxuries… but you still get that feeling that you’re actually camping.
And maybe that makes us a bit of a rarity these days…
Because here at The Paddock, we still do proper, old-school glamping — just with the rough edges taken off.
You can still hear the birds, sit outside, cook yourself something, watch the sun go down and feel like you’ve escaped for a bit.
You just don’t have to sleep on an airbed that’s mysteriously flat by 3am.
That’s glamping to us. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
