One of those reviews that makes us feel incredibly lucky to do what we do.

Matthew and his family recently stayed with us in the safari lodge, and his little girl described it as the “best place she has ever stayed”. We honestly couldn’t ask for a better compliment.

“What can we say, in the words of our little girl ‘best place she has ever stayed’. It exceeded all our expectations and we had a wonderful week in this beautiful location with excellent hosts. Thank you Andy and Sam for all your hospitality and thank you for being so wonderful to the children who loved the animals. Definitely core memories made and we can’t wait to come back again!! We loved the tent and especially all the attention to detail.”

This is exactly what we hope people take away from staying here. Time away from everyday life, fresh air, animals, beautiful countryside and, hopefully, a few memories that stay with you long after you’ve gone home.

We love welcoming families from near and far, but we also love reminding local people that you don’t have to travel miles to feel like you’ve had a proper break.

"We had a fantastic few days at the cabin on Lower Whitsleigh Farm. Andy and Sam were brilliant hosts: friendly, welcoming and kind. It's such a stunning location and the cabin was really well equipped and an amazingly peaceful place to relax. The surrounding area has so many things to do; the whole family (4 year old, 9 year old and dog) had a great time. We thoroughly enjoyed the daily animal feeding at 8am - both kids loved it! Thank you for such a wonderful stay. We'll definitely be back!"

⚽️ THE FOOTBALL SEASON HAS LANDED AT LOWER WHITSLEIGH FARM!⚽️

It’s all getting a bit serious down here in North Devon…

This afternoon we caught Roy & Dave going head-to-head in what can only be described as a very competitive pre-season friendly. ⚽️

Roy came out strong.

Dave wasn’t giving an inch.

And lurking behind them were Daphne & Delilah, apparently taking their defensive duties very seriously… although we suspect they were actually just waiting to see if anyone had brought carrots. 😂🥕

There was a fair bit of running, a lot of kicking, absolutely no understanding of the offside rule and, thankfully, no VAR required.

We’re not saying Roy is the Messi of the donkey world… but we’re also not saying he isn’t. 😉

🌞🌙 ECLIPSE EXCITEMENT AT LOWER WHITSLEIGH FARM! 🌙🌞

Hello humans! 👋

We’ve heard there’s something very exciting happening in the sky tonight… apparently the sun is going to disappear! 🌞🌚

We’re not entirely sure what that means, but obviously we have some very important thoughts on the matter…

Daphne & Delilah, our rescue donkeys, would like everyone to know that they saw it coming first. They haven’t, but they would like you to think they did.

Dave & Roy, the young donkeys, have decided that if it gets dark earlier then bedtime should definitely be earlier too. And obviously earlier bedtime means extra dinner. They’ve been very clear about this.

🐴 Joe & Ferdie, our horses, are taking the whole thing in their stride. They’ve had a quick look at the sky and decided they’ll worry about it after they’ve finished eating.

🐔 The ex-battery hens are slightly concerned that someone might forget to put them to bed if it gets dark. They would like to remind you that they have VERY specific bedtime arrangements.

🐶 The labradors, are approaching the situation sensibly and is waiting to see whether anyone drops a biscuit.

🐷 The pigs have heard there is something happening tonight and have immediately assumed it involves food. They are not disappointed.

🐑 The sheep have no idea what’s going on. They’re just following whoever looks like they know where they’re going. 😂

And the rest of us rescued animals? Well… we’re simply hoping the humans remember that an eclipse is no excuse for being late with dinner! 😂

We’re very excited to see what all the fuss is about tonight and will be watching the skies from Lower Whitsleigh Farm.

A little bit about our journey… ❤️

When we started North Devon Hog Roast and continued growing Lower Whitsleigh Farm, we never imagined quite how much they would become part of our lives.

There was no huge business plan or grand vision. It started simply with a love of farming, great food, animals and bringing people together.

Lower Whitsleigh Farm has always been home. It’s where we raise our animals, where we work hard every day, and where we’ve created a place we are incredibly proud to share with others.

North Devon Hog Roast grew from the same belief — that good food, made properly and served with genuine hospitality, can bring people together and create memories.

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of catering for hundreds of weddings, celebrations, businesses and community events across Devon. Every event is different, but the thing that stays the same is the people we meet along the way.

The couples who trust us with one of the biggest days of their lives.
The families celebrating special milestones.
The businesses who welcome us back year after year.
The guests who stop, chat and share their stories.

Those moments are what make running a family business so rewarding.

Of course, behind every event there is a lot of hard work — early mornings, late nights, planning, preparation, muddy boots, weather challenges and plenty of juggling behind the scenes!

But then there are the moments that remind us why we do it…

Seeing guests enjoying food prepared with care.
Watching children meet our animals for the first time.
Welcoming holiday guests who arrive as strangers and leave feeling like friends.

Our little farm family has grown too. From our rescue donkeys Daphne and Delilah, young donkeys Dave and Roy, horses Joe and Ferdie, our ex-battery hens, three Labradors and our ever-growing collection of pigs, sheep and rescued animals — every animal has a story.

Alongside North Devon Hog Roast, we are lucky enough to welcome guests to Lower Whitsleigh Farm, offering three unique stays — our luxury Safari Lodge, handcrafted Oak Cabin on the Lake and our award-winning cottage where the animals are your neighbours.

We love that guests can join our daily animal feeds, enjoy the peace of the Devon countryside and explore with their four-legged friends too, as our stays are proudly dog friendly.
