A lovely little glimpse of life at Lower Whitsleigh Farm ❤️

A huge thank you to Tracey and her family for sending us these two gorgeous photos from their stay with us. We absolutely love seeing the animals through our guests’ eyes! Joe is our gentle giant Irish Sports Horse who loves greeting guests!

Donkey rolling time at Lower Whitsleigh Farm! 🥰

There really is something rather lovely about watching the donkeys completely enjoying life — rolling around, having a scratch and generally doing what donkeys do best!

Stay with us here at the farm and these lovely characters could be your neighbours too. We have our Safari Lodge, Oak Cabin on the Lake and cosy Cottage, all tucked away in the peaceful North Devon countryside.

Imagine having these four as your neighbours… 🐴❤️

Today was pedicure day for our four rescue donkeys — Daphne, Delilah, Dave & Roy!

Our fabulous farrier Ros came to give them all a lovely trim and file, and of course, there were plenty of ear rubs, fuss and attention along the way.

Judging by those relaxed faces, we think they rather enjoyed their little spa treatment!

We absolutely adore these four. They all have such different personalities, and they’re a big part of what makes life here at Lower Whitsleigh Farm so special.

And the lovely thing is, if you come and stay with us, you get to meet them too! 🥰

Imagine waking up in the beautiful North Devon countryside, stepping outside your cottage, cabin on the lake or safari lodge with a cup of tea and seeing Daphne, Delilah, Dave & Roy going about their day.

Along with the donkeys, we have sheep, pigs, horses and chickens, so there’s always something to see, hear or say hello to. 🐑🐖🐴🐔

It’s not quite a petting zoo — the animals definitely have their own opinions about that! 😂 — but we love sharing a little bit of our farm life with our guests.

Lower Whitsleigh Farm isn’t just a business to us — it’s our home.

Nearly ten years ago, we moved to the peaceful North Devon countryside and it was honestly one of the best things we’ve ever done.

Our three unique holiday lets are a real labour of love, created to give people somewhere to slow down, breathe and escape the everyday.

We know that feeling ourselves — especially Andy! Exhausted, overwhelmed and desperate for a few days to simply switch off.

And we see that transformation in our guests too.

The shoulders drop.
The pace slows.
The laughter returns.

And then, of course, there are the animals.

So many guests arrive having never seen a sheep, pig, donkey or horse up close — let alone had one trot over demanding a head scratch!

There’s something incredibly special about stepping outside your cottage and spending a quiet moment with an animal you might normally only see from a distance.

Animals really are good for the soul.

If our guests leave feeling a little lighter, happier and more connected to nature, then we know Lower Whitsleigh Farm is doing exactly what we hoped it would.

A place to breathe. A place to slow down. A place to reconnect.

A little bit of Lower Whitsleigh Farm through the eyes of our guests ❤️

We absolutely love it when guests take the time to share their photos with us after their stay, and these lovely photos from Amanda and Hannah are just too gorgeous not to share!

Along with the photos came the lovely message:

“Thanks for a lovely stay – Hannah already asking to come back!!!”

And honestly, that’s exactly what we love to hear! 🥰

Lower Whitsleigh Farm is a peaceful little family farm in North Devon, where you can escape the hustle and bustle, enjoy the countryside, starry skies and plenty of fresh air – with our rather large and ever-growing animal family never too far away!

And speaking of the animals… they wanted to add their own thoughts:

Daphne & Delilah, our rescue donkeys: “We hope Hannah is coming back with carrots!”

Dave & Roy, our young donkeys: “We’re ready for more cuddles!”

🐴 Joe & Ferdie, our horses: “We’ll try to look majestic for the photos.”

🐔 And the ex-battery hens… well, they’re just hoping someone has brought treats! 😂

We have three very different places to stay – our secluded Safari Lodge, Cabin on the Lake and our cosy Cottage – so there’s something for everyone looking for a peaceful break away in North Devon.
