In the heart of Split, right by the Golden Gate, you’ll find Jardin. Locals never use its official name. They call it Jardin or Đardin, from the Italian word giardino, meaning garden. A little green hideaway in the middle of stone, where the city slows down for a moment. ✨
And in front of it stands Grgur Ninski. A huge bronze bishop with a book in his hand, the one who defended the Croatian language and Glagolitic script. But when people reach him, they all do the same thing. They don’t look at his face. They rub his big toe. Thousands of hands have polished it to a shine over the years.
