Pag is shaped by its landscape in the most direct way: stone, wind, and salt have defined how life developed here for centuries.

The strong bura wind, dry climate, and salty sea air have shaped its almost bare, stone-like landscape over centuries. What seems minimal at first glance is actually the result of constant natural forces working over time.

But what truly defined the island is salt. Production on Pag has been recorded for over a thousand years, and by the Middle Ages it had become one of the most valuable resources in the Adriatic. Salt was not only traded but at times even used as a form of payment, which shows how important it was for life and survival in this region.

The traditional salt pans in the Pag Bay still exist today, and the modern Solana Pag continues this long heritage of production.

Along the coast of Omiš and the wider Split-Dalmatia region, different landscapes are all within easy reach, from sea level to mountain viewpoints and island escapes.

Staying at places like Boutique in Duće, in Lokva Rogoznica, or Villa Zetna, gives a simple base to explore the area without long transfers, whether it’s short coastal walks or full day trips inland and to the islands.

Short trails like Fortica above Omiš lead quickly from the town into elevated views over the Cetina canyon, while routes in Marjan or Mosor offer shaded forest walks and open ridge panoramas above Split.

Further inland, Biokovo combines a scenic mountain drive with high-altitude viewpoints such as Skywalk and Sveti Jure, while island destinations like Vidova Gora on Brač require a longer journey but reward with some of the most recognizable views in Dalmatia.

Each route offers a different pace, but all share the same accessibility from the coast and the possibility to experience a different side of the region in a single stay.
