At 4 PM today, this was our view from Relimai Retreat. Massive clouds came rolling over the hills, with the Teesta flowing quietly below. We see this view often, but somehow… it never gets ordinary. So today, we recorded it again to share the real-time magic with you.

This is Kalimpong as we experience it every day: wild, peaceful and ever-changing. Imagine waking up to these clouds and river views.

What started as an experiment has become one of our favourite things to learn about at Relimai Retreat.

When we decided to grow Shiitake, Kalimpong seemed like the perfect place to try. Our cool, temperate climate, natural moisture and comfortable temperatures mean we can grow them without constantly controlling the temperature.

And instead of sawdust blocks, we chose the slower, traditional way—growing our Shiitake on chestnut wood logs.

We had absolutely no experience growing mushrooms when we started. Just curiosity, a little patience and a lot of learning along the way!

There is also some fascinating research showing that Shiitake grown on logs and sawdust can differ in their flavour-related compounds, including the umami-associated 5′-GMP.

But for us, the best test has been much simpler: taste.

Everyone who has tasted our Shiitake has loved them—and we’re genuinely thrilled with both the quality and the yield we’ve achieved so far.

And then there are moments like this… mushrooms almost ready to pick, with that mysterious little mist around them.

We’re still learning. Every harvest teaches us something new.

🍑 A foggy Himalayan morning. A peach tree full of memories. A nanglo overflowing with yesterday’s harvest.

This is our 4th or 5th peach season, and every year nature rewards us a little differently.

After learning how to prune our trees last year, this season’s peaches are bigger, sweeter, crunchier and bursting with juice.

The reel also takes you through our little world—from the peach tree where they were picked, to our shiitake mushroom house and our kitchen garden.

Here, we grow cabbage, lettuce, beans, strawberries, coriander, bok choy, carrots, lady’s finger and bitter gourd—one season, one lesson at a time.

For us, hospitality isn’t just about offering a stay. It’s about sharing a way of life that’s deeply connected to nature.

After days of on-and-off rain, the view finally cleared. This was at 5:37 pm on 2 May 2026. The sunlight hit every hill below in the best way. The River Teesta stood out with a clear golden glow. The darker ridge in front hides the Rangeet flowing behind it. It’s a view we hadn’t seen in a while. Simple, but exactly why people come here. Our guests got lucky with this one.
