Kanazawa’s black roof tiles display different expressions depending on the weather—radiating a calm beauty on rainy days and shimmering brightly in the sunlight. Inspired by this scenery, this art panel was created by repurposing tools from gold leaf production and expressed through a striking contrast of black and white.
The black cowhide was once used for postmen’s bags, while the white leather served as part of a shamisen. Passed on to gold‑leaf artisans, these materials have taken on new forms over time and now represent the unique atmosphere of the city, delighting guests with their story.
In addition to this piece, artworks based on the concept of the “cycle of craftsmanship” found in Kanazawa’s traditional arts can be found throughout the hotel.

金沢の黒瓦は雨の日にはしっとりとした美しさをたたえ、晴れの日には光を受けてきらきらと輝いて見えます。その情景をモチーフに、金箔づくりの道具を再利用し、白と黒のコントラストで表現したアートパネルが生まれました。
かつて黒の牛革は郵便配達員の鞄として、白い革は三味線の胴に張られる部分として活躍した後、箔打ち職人のもとへと受け継がれました。ひとつの素材が長い年月の中で幾度も姿を変え、様々な人の手を経て、現在ではこの街ならではの風情ある景色を象徴する作品となり、ゲストの目を楽しませています。館内には本作品のみならず、金沢の伝統工芸の背景にある”ものづくりの循環”をコンセプトとしたアートワークが随所に散りばめられています。
