Babel is an intimate guesthouse surrounded by a tropical garden with an outside bar & restaurant area, serving a combination of local and western style dishes. The bar serves a wide selection of cocktails and is the perfect place to kick back with fellow travelers after a long day exploring the temples of Angkor. Contributing to the local community plays a central role within Babel’s company values. We constantly seek to provide benefits from the tourism industry to the local community in Siem Reap, and we are doing our best to cause as little damage as possible to the area in which we operate. By making Babel your home while staying in Siem Reap, you help us make a difference. RESPONSIBLE TOURISM
Babel Guesthouse is run with an active focus on Responsible Tourism. We constantly seek to provide benefits from the tourism industry to the local community in Siem Reap, and we are doing our best to cause as little damage as possible to the area in which we operate.

• Giving back to the local society
We only hire local staff, drivers and guides. They all receive plenty of training, good working conditions, fair salaries and flexible working hours to enable the staff to continue their education. We also provide them with health insurance, English lessons and an opportunity to get sponsored for higher education. We support good projects in town and motivate our guests to join in on different charity projects, like the Giant Puppet Parade. We arrange BBQ night where part of the profit goes back to a local organization or NGO. Occasionally we have kids from an orphanage visiting our guesthouse to perform traditional Apsara dance for our guests.

• Environmental-friendly Guesthouse
We recycle everything we can, we use low energy lights in the hallways, we grow organic fruit, herbs and vegetables in our garden, we recommend our guests to use the bicycles available for rent (the money from this goes to charity), we give our guests information about how to preserve the Angkor temple complex and not remove or bring any rocks from the temple area. Guests are informed to turn off lights and air conditioning when they leave the room, we recommend not using excessive amounts of water and ask guests to reuse their towels when possible.

• ConCERT and Child Safe certified
Babel Guesthouse is a businesses member of ConCERT, an NGO which supports well run NGOs across Cambodia. We are also proud members of Child Safe International. Child Safe is an international network that consists of local and international people, businesses and groups that protects children from abuse and prevents them from being placed in abusive situations. Being Child Safe members, our staff is trained in:
• Making our guests aware of the dangers many Cambodian kids get subjected to. Guests are asked to contact Child Safe if they notice any suspicious activity involving children.
• Giving our guests the information about thinking twice before buying anything from the kids on the streets. By doing this you only encourage them to stay on the streets instead of going to school. There are many better ways to help Cambodian kids to get a brighter future.
• Recommend the guests to visit well run places that focus on the local community, such as the local hospital where they can give blood, the handicap training center, schools, workshops, restaurants, cafés and museums.

Happy Khmer New year!!! ✨

Khmer New Year is the biggest holiday in Cambodia. It starts on the 14th of April and is celebrated for three days. It marks the end of the harvest and welcomes the rainy season.

Day 1: Moha Sankranta ✨
Families prepare the house and help arranging foods and drinks to welcome the new spirit.

Day 2: Virak Vanabat ✨
Gifts and donations are offered to elders and less fortunate. Sand mounds are formed in a ritual at the pagoda to bring longevity and prosperity.

Day 3: Vearak Leung Sak ✨
Official new year beginning, washing Buddha statues and elders with perfumed water, and peak water/powder festivities.

Now, the new year can begin! ✨

At Babel, we believe that travel should be more than just sightseeing—it should be about connection, education, and giving back to the local community. We’re thrilled to welcome four nursing students from Oslo Metropolitan University as they begin their transformative 12-week journey in Cambodi

SHE SURVIVED! Check this out - back on her feet, and back at work! We were able to save her because of YOU guys 🙏🏻

The story: August 2024 our beloved cook Savutt was hit by a huge car who ignored the red light and smashed her right down. Her moto was dragged 20 metres under the car, as the driver was escaping.

Savutt completely crushed her hip, damaged her knee and shoulder, and was told at the Provincial Hospital that she can never walk again 🤯

We decided to NOT listen to that, and send her in an ambulance all the way to Phnom Penh to Cambodia China Friendship Hospital who are specialists in orthopaedic trauma.

LUCKILY the surgery was successful ❤️‍🩹

After about a year of rehab, she is now back here at work with us at Babel!

Thank you SO MUCH for your financial support, we wouldn’t have been able to do this without you guys ♥️

Most Cambodians would never be able to travel this far in an ambulance for this surgery. That ride alone was quite pricey.

The health system in Cambodia is absolutely not like what we are used to (and take for granted) in Norway where I come from.

Savutt has worked for us for almost a decade. Her brother Kosal is one of our amazing Tuk Tuk drivers, and he is married to our incredible service staff Chan Hov.

Savutt has two children who are just happy their mother survived. All our kids grew up together, we know their whole family very well, and we absolutely love them.

So, a huge thanx again!! Lots of love from all of us in Babel Family ♥️

It’s actually a bit random that we turned into a very family friendly guesthouse! People all ages love it here, we have a lot of groups, and also romantic honeymoon couples. But we are especially known for being kids-friendly.

Here is a bit of the story:

When Covid hit in 2020, schools were closed in the whole country.

We had a lot of kids running around here at Babel Guesthouse while their parents were working on rebuilding our garden. So we had to build our own little school for them.

We build two inside areas and five outside areas in the front and at the back of Babel - for kids to play safely.

We made it all with reclaimed wood, bamboo, rattan and other recycled materials. We filled it all with plasticfree, educational toys, most of it found second hand - just the way we love it!

Eventually, when schools opened again, Babel Guesthouse got back to normal. And now we are blessed with all these memories and an extremely child friendly guesthouse, with lovely play areas everywhere for YOUR kids to have fun, and you to relax 💛
