They’re simply a helpful way to give people a general idea of where different areas of Vallarta are located, using approximate reference points, public map references, local knowledge, and community input.

Puerto Vallarta has so many unique colonias, and part of the fun of this series is learning together as we go.

🌴 Did you know Puerto Vallarta has far more neighborhoods than most visitors ever hear about?

Most people know the big names: Romantic Zone, Centro, 5 de Diciembre, Versalles, Fluvial, Marina Vallarta and the Hotel Zone.

But Puerto Vallarta is so much bigger than the usual tourist map.

Depending how you count colonias, fraccionamientos, residential areas and local zones, there are well over 70 neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta — and one colonia database lists 246 registered neighborhood records for the municipality, based on INEGI 2020 census data and INE 2024 colonia records.

That means Vallarta is not just one lifestyle.

Some areas are famous for nightlife and walkability. Some are known for ocean views. Some are quieter and more residential. Some are local, traditional and full of everyday Vallarta life. Some offer better value for buyers and renters. And some are still overlooked by people who only know the most popular zones.

So we’re starting a new series:

🏡 Puerto Vallarta Beyond the Tourist Map: An A–Z Neighborhood Guide

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting different colonias and neighborhoods throughout Puerto Vallarta — from the well-known areas to the underrated local favorites.

To get started, here’s a simple visual preview of some of Puerto Vallarta’s best-known areas. This is only the beginning — tomorrow we start with the A–B neighborhoods.
