Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post

Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post On old Route 66, overlooking Albuquerque. You really don't want to pass us by. We've got sooo much for you to enjoy.

A vintage trailer exhibit, the only Hubcap Tree on 66, fun memorabilia and a great shop with fun and funky things you can't do without. Originally known as the Hilltop Trading Post we are proud of our heritage on old Route 66. The trading post operated until 1969 when it became a campground. Still serving the needs of travelers it was was time to adapt its use in order to survive.

Enchanted Trails was originally known as the Hill Top Trading Post, then it was converted into the Hill Top Campground. We found this advert and thought it pretty fun.

What a wonderful find at the Albuquerque Museum Route 66 exhibit! This pennant is from the Hill Top Trading Post. It was donated to the Museum by Nancy Tucker and I’d never seen one before. Museum records show the pennant dates to 1935 which is further back than I’ve ever been able to trace. The Hill Top Trading Post evolved over time and is now known as Enchanted Trails RV Park and Trading Post. We’ve retained much of the history and gladly show off with our vintage camper exhibit and the only Hubcap Tree on Route 66.
I might need to jump down that rabbit hole again.

The Hill Top Trading Post was originally located on the south side of Route 66 where I-40 sits now but Mr L.G. Hill sued the DOT because the route was becoming a divided road and he didn’t want to sit where cars would pass him by as they headed into Albuquerque. Mr Hill lost the suit but was awarded damages so he moved his building, literally brick by brick, to the north side of Route 66 and faced it south. Now travelers would stop after finally reaching the top of Nine Mile Hill. He had a billboard suggesting they fill their water bags before heading into the desert. Mr Hill was quite ingenious as he not only had the wrecker service but also had a cafe, snake pit, ice cream, sodas, Native American dancers and weavers with pottery, jewelry and even a b***o wandering the property that loved to mooch snacks.
Hill Top Trading Post evolved into a campground in 1969 and then a full service RV Park. It’s now called Enchanted Trails and we proudly share our Route 66 history with anyone interested. We have a great vintage camper exhibit, the only Hubcap tree on Route 66. lots of old signs, cars, memorabilia, a shop with souvenirs. We regularly host international tour groups and stamp Route 66 Passports everyday. There have been movies filmed here and we still welcome visitors just like Hill Top Trading Post did.
