GET LIT BOOK CLUB
Sunday, October 18th: 4pm
Almost Somewhere by Suzanne Roberts

It was 1993, Suzanne Roberts had just finished college, and when her friend suggested they hike California’s John Muir Trail. Part memoir, part nature writing, part travelogue, Almost Somewhere is Roberts’s account of that 28 day hike that changed her life.

WRITING YOUR LIFE: MEMOIR WORKSHOP
Sunday, October 18th: 5pm
Led by Nevada Author, Suzanne Roberts

When you talk about your life, do people say you should write a book? Now’s the time to start. No matter where you are in your memoir-writing journey, this generative writing workshop will help you start, develop, or revise a memoir-in-process. We’ll work through a series of writing prompts, exploring ways to get unstuck, using specifics and sensory imagery, and scene building. Bring a paper and pen! 

SPOOKY FULL MOON HIKE
Sunday, October 25th: 7pm 

Wear a costume for our annual walk with the spirits! Meet at the Bristlecone General Store. 2-3 mile hike on a nearby trail. Wear sturdy boots. Bring water & a friend.

HALLOWEEN FUN & GAMES
Saturday, October 31st: 5pm
Bristlecone General Store Front Porch

The cauldron will be lit and the games…and treats…will be ready for all the costumed revelers who stroll through Baker!

Perfect Combo: FULL MOON HIKE and MOON PIES!

The harvest moon made an appearance through cloudy skies adding to the mystery and fun of hiking together with friends from Baker, Ely & Reno, NV; Salt Lake City; San Jose and Northern California!!

We celebrated our niece, Kateri, who has worked with us this summer and is on her way back home. Homemade moon pies were a delicious way to send her off!

Our last Full Moon Hike of 2026 is Sunday, October 26th at 7pm. It’s our annual Spooky Full Moon Hike and costumes are encouraged!

My niece and I accompanied Sofie Van Doorn, the autumn artist-in-residence at Great Basin National Park, to the Magic Grove of Bristlecone Pines to assist her in recording choreography that she created for a video showcasing the wonders of these ancient giants!

We did some Bristlecone Yoga along the way!

FULL MOON HIKE & MOON PIES!
Saturday, September 27th: 7:30pm

Meet at the Bristlecone General Store. 2-3 mile hike on a nearby trail. Wear sturdy boots. Bring water & a friend. At our half way point, we’ll have a special celebration of homemade moon pies in honor of our niece, Kateri, who spent 4 months working with us this season and is leaving for home at the end of the month.

We’ll continue focusing on all the phases of the moon and are posing questions to enlighten our senses and strengthen our connection to ourselves, each other and our universe. This month we honor the waning crescent moon and reflective release, asking, “How can intentional stillness strengthen and center me?”

Summer = Road Trips!!
Nevada’s section of Highway 50 has been deemed the Loneliest Road in America, but we believe that these 375 miles from Baker to Carson City will change your life! In August the Orange Chair had the adventure of a life time cruising this open road and discovering gems in every town! It even took a side trip to Reno!

Travel Nevada has created the Official Hwy 50 Survival Guide Passport as a challenge to a July 1986 “Life” magazine article that described the portion of Highway 50 that runs through Nevada as the “Loneliest Road in America.” The state embraced the moniker and began using it advantageously. Passport holders hunt for stamps in eight towns along Highway 50 and receive a certificate of completion to authenticate their survival skills.
