Important information regarding our water
The City of Beeville is aware that some residents may notice an earthy smell or taste in their water. We understand this can be concerning, and we want to provide some information about what is causing it and what the City is doing to address it.
The earthy taste and odor are the result of an increased influx of naturally occurring organic material in the water coming into our system. Recent inflows from the Hill Country have contributed to higher levels of these organics in our raw water supply.
Our water operators and City crews are actively working to address this issue. We are:
🔹 Increasing the use of sodium permanganate in the treatment process
🔹 Adjusting chlorine dioxide levels as needed
🔹 Continuing routine flushing throughout the distribution system to keep water moving through the system and help reduce the taste and odor
The good news is that raw water turbidity readings are already decreasing, which is an encouraging sign. As these conditions continue to improve, we expect the earthy taste and odor to subside soon.
Most importantly, the water remains safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing, and other everyday uses. The City routinely tests its water, and our water system remains in compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requirements.
