Are You Vermont?

Are the brown, bare trees not beautiful?
Does the frosty, cold air not awaken your lungs,
make you feel alive in a way that warmth cannot?
Does the endless march of winter not invite you to slow down,
to stop, to catch your breath?

Snow softens every edge.
The air is calm and still.
Birdsong drifts through the quiet.
Wrapped in blankets, settled into soft cushions,
coffee warming your hands —
there is nothing to do but be,
to breathe, to simply pause.
