Weā€™ve been doing a bunch of improvements and finishing touches before hunting season.

We recently insulated and redid the garage on the Homestead lodge. This next week, we need to finish the insulation, hang lights, install a heater and get everything wrapped up.

At the Legacy Lodge, we epoxied the floor and have been working on final touches.

At Rooster Ridge, we finished the basement. Gonna be a great hangout spot this fall!

All of this on top of refreshing and updating at our other locations, we can really feel opener creeping up on us!

People always ask what our favorite part of pheasant hunting is. Honestly, it's probably not pulling the trigger.

It's watching a good dog lock up on point. It's hearing somebody yell, "Rooster!" from the other end of the line. It's walking back to the bus at the end of the day, tired, dusty, and already talking about tomorrow's hunt.

That's the South Dakota experience we love sharing.

If you've hunted South Dakota, you already know one thingā€”the wind is almost always part of the plan.

Instead of fighting it, use it.

On windy days, pheasants often tuck into thicker cover where they can get out of the breeze. Shelterbelts, cattails, creek bottoms, and heavier grass become even more important.

Some of our best hunts have happened on days when everyone else stayed inside because it was "too windy."
