I just told this story today. So I thought I would make a post for the newbies on my page. I painted this with Smoky who is in The Smithsonian Museum of Art. https://americanart.si.edu/artist/russell-smoky-brown-7398 Smoky would come over to the First Ford Showplace Warehouse in Olde Town East many times and we would see him every year at the Hot Times Community Festival. This painting was made at the Warehouse.
Smoky and I painted this together. He wasn’t too pleased that I made him looking older in the painting. So he made me look fatter. 😂 (showing his sense of humor) 🙂. There were two notable people visiting Levent Isik at the loft that day. Chuck and Jan Rosenak. Chuck Rosenak has many published books on Folk Art ,they both together had an extensive collection of art & made several major donations of both artworks and research archives to prominent institutions. Chuck Rosenak did walk over and looked at painting & said it was very good.
I was very lucky to have been part of the Self-Taught Art Community (Art movement) in Olde Town East, Columbus, Ohio. (William Hawkins, Elijah Pierce, Smoky Brown and Levent Isik. ) Unfortunately, I never met William Hawkins and Elijah Pierce. (Both in The Smithsonian Museum of Art) but I was fortunate to have painted with both Smoky and alongside Levent (who is in museums, publications and many private collections).
Did you know? 🙂. Trish ❤️
