The front yard is looking very pink and purple. My aunt saved some irises from my grandma’s yard several years ago after she passed away. I’ve had them stored in a bag in my basement for a while. When I moved in last summer I played them everywhere just to see if they’d survive. Now I have irises everywhere!

The Lake Effect Inn and Leslie Bakes of Engadine will be hosting a turtle cookie decorating station for Turtle Day next Thursday! Be sure to bring the kids to stop by and decorate a cookie. There will also be a few delicious baked goods for sale!

There's a lot to do in our area in addition to the "big highlights" like Tahquamenon Falls and Pictured Rocks. Those areas are often really crowded in the summer months, so I put together a few alternate day trip itineraries that are a little more off the beaten path. All of these ideas are great for a day trip from your stay in Curtis.

Northland Outfitters Campground & Canoe / Kayak Livery is just down the road from the Lake Effect Inn. Not only is it home to Benny the Troll, they also offer kayaking trips on the Manistique River.

Winter Carnival wrapped up with a great fireworks show and our guests didn’t even have to go outside to enjoy it! After a long day outdoors, it was nice to watch them from the window!

It’s going to be a busy weekend in the UP! Even though we are sold out of all dog sledding trips February 12-16, you can still go all-in with winter fun! Milly and Elizabeth will be participating in the Midnight Run on Friday night (February 13th) in downtown Marquette. Winter Carnival and ice fishing takes place in Curtis on Saturday (February 14th). The carnival and ice fishing happens right across the street from the Lake Effect Inn and there are still a couple of rooms available. Come on up to cheer on the teams, enjoy some authentic UP events and enjoy the sunshine!
