This island, located in the St. Johns River in Volusia County, welcomes visitors to enjoy nature and history in quiet solitude. The island is accessible only by private boat or park ferry. earn more about the many inhabitants and uses of Hontoon Island over the years. Boating, canoeing, and fishing are popular activities and canoe rentals are available. Picnic areas include tables, grills, and a playground. Overnight boat slip rentals are also available. The park's ferry operates daily from 8:00 a.m. to one hour before sunset. Located six miles west of Deland off State Road 44. The Hontoon CSO is "A not-for-profit Citizen Support Organization, committed to the Enhancement of Hontoon Island State Park." The Foundation was created in 1993. Charter members include many people of the boating community and "landlubbers" who enjoy the unique opportunities Hontoon Island State Park has to offer. The "Island Store" is now fully operational, providing visitors and campers with souvenirs and needed supplies at reasonable prices. All proceeds are used to further enhance park projects. To continue its success, the Foundation needs YOU as a member. Not only as a donor, but as a volunteer running the Island Store, piloting the ferry, assisting with current programming and projects yet to come.
