Built in 1887, the historic Strater Hotel (Historic Hotels of America Member) is a prominent downtown Durango, Colorado landmark located two blocks north of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, one hour east of Mesa Verde National Park, and in the heart of the rugged San Juan Mountains. Experience the Old West, fine dining, shopping, and many year-round indoor and outdoor activities. The hotel is home to the world’s largest collection of American Victorian Walnut Antiques, the Louis L’Amour Room (designated Literary Landmark), and three unique dining establishments including Mahogany Grille specializing in fine dining. Enjoy award-winning ragtime music live at the Diamond Belle Saloon inside the historic Strater Hotel featuring Adam Swanson this Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 5:30 - 10 pm. Come for Weekday Happy Hour from 4 - 6 pm and stay for free live music and entertainment.

The Diamond Belle Saloon is one of North America’s most historic and prominent ragtime music venues.

Ragtime has held a strong presence in musical composition, entertainment, and scholarship for over a century. It emerged in its published form during the mid-1890s and quickly spread across the continent via published compositions.

By the early 1900s ragtime flooded the music publishing industry. The popularity and demand for ragtime also boosted sale of pianos and greatly swelled the ranks of the recording industry.

The Strater Hotel is a living history museum and a member of the Historic Hotels of America of America. You will find history and awe-inspiring story and craftsmanship literally everywhere here. The Strater hotel welcomes people from all over the world to tour our living history museum and iconic red brick building in the heart of downtown Durango.

Thursday, October 7th and Friday, October 8th offers your last chance to take our free guided history tours from 12-3 pm to learn more about the fascinating history of the Strater Hotel. If you can’t make it to a guided history tour this week you can learn more about our history at Strater.com

The Cowboy Parade is the largest and most spectacular event in the Durango Cowboy Gathering and it passes right by the Strater Hotel . Historic wagons and carriages, fashionable ladies and gents dressed in period costumes, buckaroos on stick horses, dancers, walkers and lots of horses, mules and burros make this parade a family favorite.
