The call startled me. โBrian, we have an infant in the campground not breathing. EMS has been called!โ
Within three minutes, we had staff stationed at every entrance gate and intersection, guiding Cooke County's first responders directly to the child.
I texted every guest onsite, asking them to clear the roadways and, if they felt comfortable, to pray.
The ambulance arrived within minutes. We're seven miles from the city limits.
As I waved each emergency vehicle toward its destination, the drivers gave me a thumbs-up. A simple gesture that said, โThanks. We've got it.โ
Soon, CareFlite was circling overhead, preparing to land beside our Chapel, just feet from where the child was being treated.
When the child was loaded onto the helicopter, they were conscious and crying. We are praying for a full recovery.
I witnessed something, today, I'll never forget.
Our EMS, fire, and sheriff's office responders treated this child with the urgency, skill, and compassion you'd hope someone would show your own son or daughter.
They showed up ready to do everything they could for a child they'd never met.
The next time you see a first responder, don't take their service for granted. Look them in the eye and show your gratitude.
I'm fortunate to have experienced what true service looks like when it matters most. Thank you!
