Labor Day weekend is almost here, and the mountains are already giving us a little preview of fall. 🍂🐴

Cross the river, follow the trails through the aspens and trees, ride into beautiful mountain meadows and take in those Colorado views while the first fall colors begin to appear.

We have 1-hour and 2-hour trail rides available for Labor Day weekend, but spots are filling up!🤠

Work Camper Spotlight: Grant & Michelle Abercrombie 🤠

Meet Grant and Michelle Abercrombie, two of the wonderful people who help keep Winding River Resort looking beautiful and welcoming for our guests!

Grant and Michelle raised their boys in Canon City, Colorado. After selling their home, they traded it for life on the road, moved into their RV and found their way to us here in Grand Lake.

You’ll find them helping with the grounds and keeping our shower houses clean and ready for our guests. And in their words, “We love this beautiful area.” ❤️

We are so thankful for Grant and Michelle and for ALL of our incredible work campers! It truly takes a team to keep everything running, and we’re fortunate to have a group that works so well together, helps one another and takes pride in making Winding River Resort a special place for everyone who visits.

Thank you, Grant and Michelle, for everything you do! And a big thank you to our entire work camping crew. We appreciate you more than you know! ❤️🏔️🤠

A little piece of history is waiting for you inside the barn. 🤠

Before or after you head out on a horse trail ride, take a few minutes to wander through our Carriage Museum and check out the beautiful carriages from days gone by. There’s so much history tucked away here at Winding River Resort, and the museum is a fun stop for the whole family.

If you’re in Grand Lake, come visit us! You don’t have to be staying at the resort to stop by and explore.

🍂 Fall is beginning to show itself in Grand Lake… and the Wi******er Cabin has a few September openings!

If you’ve been thinking about a cozy mountain getaway, this may be the perfect time. The leaves are starting to turn, the mornings are getting a little crisper, and our handcrafted Wi******er Cabin is available:

September 8–17
September 21–26

The Wi******er has all the rustic character you’d hope for in a mountain cabin, with plenty of comforts waiting inside. Gather around the beautiful river-rock gas fireplace after a day exploring, cook dinner together in the full kitchen, and settle in for a quiet evening away from it all.

The cabin sleeps up to 6 guests with:
🍁 One bedroom with a queen bed
🍁 Loft with one full-size bed and two twin beds
🍁 Full kitchen with stove, oven, microwave and refrigerator
🍁 Full private bathroom and shower
🍁 Linens, pots, pans and dishes provided
🍁 Patio, picnic table and fire ring

And no satellite or cable TV—which might just be one of the best parts. 😉 Trade a little screen time for mountain time.

There’s something pretty special about seeing just how gentle these big guys really are. 🤠

After another fun family wagon ride, our lady wranglers hopped on Bob and Barney ba****ck to take them back out to pasture, with nothing more than a halter and lead rope for reins.

For horses this big and powerful, Bob and Barney are incredibly soft-hearted, kind and full of personality. They work hard pulling our wagon and seem to enjoy being part of all the memories being made here at Winding River Resort.

And a big thank you to our wonderful lady wranglers who care for our horses, work alongside them every day and make moments like these look so easy. We appreciate everything you do behind the scenes to keep our horses happy, cared for and loved. ❤️

Tomorrow morning starts with breakfast… and you might just leave with a new little friend. 🤠

Join us for Chuckwagon Breakfast at the Pavilion tomorrow morning from 8:00–9:30 AM, then wander over to the Winding River Resort store and check out one of the latest things the kids have been LOVING — Wigglitz!

These fun little sensory figures have quickly become a campground favorite. Kids are picking out their favorites, giving them names, carrying them around in their pockets and comparing their collections with new friends around the resort. ❤️

And as you can see… there are LOTS of little characters to choose from!

So after breakfast, stop by the store and let the kids see if there’s a Wigglitz that needs to come along on the rest of their Winding River adventure.

🐴 HORSE + WRANGLER SPOTLIGHT: SONJA, SASHA & GAGE 🤠

If you’ve been out on a trail ride with us, there’s a good chance you’ve met these two beautiful girls, Sonja and Sasha!

Sonja and Sasha are Norwegian Fjord horses, a breed known for their distinctive coloring, two-toned manes and sturdy build. And judging by these photos, they’re also pretty good at posing for the camera. 😂

Joining them for today’s spotlight is Wrangler Gage Schroeder, who comes to us from Western Missouri. Gage helps take care of our horses and guests here at Winding River Resort, but you may also see him over at On The Trail Outfitters, located right at the back of the resort.

So after exploring the mountains on horseback, you can switch saddles and head out on another kind of adventure! On The Trail Outfitters offers ATV rentals with access to miles of trails through the beautiful Arapaho National Forest.

Some traditions just get better with time. ❤️

For more than 10 years, this wonderful group of family and friends has made Winding River Resort part of their annual camping tradition, and we feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the memories they’ve made along the way.

Last night, we had the chance to capture a few photos as everyone gathered together, shared dinner, laughed, told stories and enjoyed another evening here in the mountains.

This year was even more special as they celebrated Kim’s birthday! 🎉 Kim is the one who helps bring everyone together and keeps this annual tradition going year after year.

Kim, we hope you had a very Happy Birthday! And to the entire group, thank you for choosing Winding River Resort year after year. It means more to us than you know.

The campsites may be where everyone stays, but it’s the friendships, family, laughter and memories made around them that make a tradition like this so special.

Here’s to more campfires, more adventures, more birthdays and many more years of making memories together at Winding River Resort. 🏕️❤️
