UPDATE ON FEBRUARY 15 DISCOVERY OF HUMAN REMAINS

On February 15, 2026, human remains were discovered on the Mark Twain Cave Complex property by an employee hiking on the grounds.

Following a forensic examination and autopsy, the remains have been identified as Brian Snyder, who had previously been reported missing from a job site in Hannibal near the cave.

Authorities have determined that no foul play is suspected.

We are thankful for the thorough work of the Hannibal Police Department and the assisting agencies throughout this investigation. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and loved ones during this difficult time.

We appreciate the community’s patience and respect as this matter has been handled.

Human Remains Discovered on Mark Twain Cave Property

HANNIBAL, MO — On the morning of February 15, 2026, human remains were discovered on the property of Mark Twain Cave.

The remains were located by a Mark Twain Cave employee who was hiking on the property with their dog. Upon making the discovery, the authorities were immediately notified.

Crews from the Hannibal Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and conducted an on-site investigation. The area was secured while officials began standard investigative procedures.

Authorities have indicated that further analysis will be conducted to confirm the identity of the individual. It is hoped that this discovery may bring long-awaited closure to a missing person’s case.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released by law enforcement as it becomes available and appropriate.

Mark Twain Cave management is cooperating fully with authorities and extends its thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones affected.
