📢 A New Chapter for Atchison County Lake

Howdy, neighbors!

The Atchison County Commissioners have officially adopted a new Atchison County Lake Resolution to help guide how the lake is used, protected, and enjoyed for years to come.

The goal isn’t to make the lake more complicated—it’s to make expectations clearer so everyone can enjoy a safe, family-friendly experience while we continue improving this special place.

Some highlights include:

🏕️ Designated camping areas and reservation procedures
🌙 Quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM
🎆 Fireworks are permitted where allowed by law, with a reminder to celebrate safely, keep them away from dry vegetation, and clean up afterward.
🐕 Pets are welcome but must remain under control in accordance with the resolution.
🗑️ Help us keep the lake beautiful by packing out your trash and leaving your campsite better than you found it.

This resolution is another step toward preserving the lake while creating opportunities for future improvements. From new camping sites to safer facilities—and maybe even bigger projects down the road—we’re building one improvement at a time.

We know change brings questions, and that’s okay. Ask away! We’re committed to working with our community because, around Laketown, we believe in getting to the “yes.”

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, shared ideas, stayed at the lake, and supported this effort. Every campsite reserved, every piece of litter picked up, and every encouraging word helps write the next chapter of Atchison County Lake.

We’ll see you at the lake.

🌧️ Heads Up, Lake Friends 🌧️

Mother Nature decided to give us a good soaking today, dropping around 3 inches of rain across the area. As a result, water is currently flowing over 326th Road between Decatur Road and Clay Road.

If you’re heading out, please use common sense and avoid driving through water-covered roadways. It may look shallow, but moving water can be deceiving and conditions can change quickly. Consider taking an alternate route until the water recedes.

We’re sharing this as a neighborly heads-up to help keep everyone safe. Any official road closures or traffic control measures will come from Atchison County Road & Bridge.

Stay safe, check on your neighbors, and enjoy the rain from dry ground if you can.

If you haven’t heard, the spillway at the lake is open once again to pedestrians & cyclists (weather/water permitting). Thank you to everyone that came out to help us celebrate it!

Our family reunion was a great way to reconnect with old friends and neighbors, and to meet some new ones. We are so grateful for you all!

One visitor asked if we would be doing this again next year, and the answer is YES! We will make sure we have a day when we can all come together each year.

In the meantime, the lake is always open to fishing, camping, kayaking, and gathering with family & friends.

It’s a great day at the Atchison County Lake! ☺️
