🌴 A little Kon Tiki history…
Long before Islamorada became the destination it is today, Kon Tiki was part of the old Florida Keys way of life — where a waterfront stay meant fishing, boating, family, and spending your days on the water.
According to family history of the Knudsen family, the property was purchased in 1960, when Kenneth Carll Knudsen was just 10 years old. His parents bought six acres of bayfront property at Mile Marker 81 for $35,000 and began developing Kon Tiki.
More than six decades later, we’re still going strong. 💙
For generations, families have made Kon Tiki part of their lives. Some of our guests first came here with their grandparents, grew up coming back year after year, and now return with their own children — and even grandchildren. 💌
We’re still here, still family-oriented, and still centered around the water. Guests bringing their own boats can enjoy complimentary dockage and use of our private boat ramp, with boats up to 24’. 🌅🎣
Here’s to the families who have been coming for generations — and the generations still to come.🫂
—Our historical information comes from The Knudsens, a 2020 family history of the Knudsen family and their connection to Kon Tiki, along with a vintage Kon-Tiki Resort & Outrigger Club postcard published by Humm Publishing Co.
