🍁 Fall in Southern Maine might just be our favorite season…

The summer crowds begin to thin, the mornings turn crisp, the leaves start changing — and there is still so much happening within an easy drive of Kennebunk.

If you’ve been thinking about a fall getaway, here are a few good excuses:

🌿 September 12–13 | Laudholm Nature Crafts Festival — Wells
More than 150 artisans, local food and drinks, all in the beautiful setting of the Wells Reserve at Laudholm.

🍺 September 26 | Biddeford Oktoberfest
Local breweries, food trucks and live music in downtown Biddeford.

🎡 September 27–October 3 | Cumberland Fair
A real Maine country fair — agriculture, animals, harness racing, entertainment and, of course, fair food.

🍂 October 4–11 | Fryeburg Fair
One of Maine’s great fall traditions and a wonderful excuse for a foliage drive through western Maine.

🎬 October 15–18 | New Hampshire Film Festival — Portsmouth
Four days of independent films, special guests and events throughout historic downtown Portsmouth.

And right in the middle of it all? Kennebunk. ❤️

Our hearts are with Norway today. 🇳🇴

With the passing of His Majesty King Harald V, Norway has lost a beloved King who served his country and his people for more than three decades.

We send our deepest condolences to the Norwegian people, to Queen Sonja and the entire Royal Family, and especially to His Majesty King Haakon VIII as he mourns his father and begins his reign.

From one Scandinavian to another, and from our little corner of Maine — our thoughts are with you today. ❤️🇳🇴

I thought I knew Kennebunk… and then I found the Secret Garden. 🌿

Tucked away inside Evergreen Cemetery is this beautiful little 1.5-mile trail that I somehow had never explored before.

Wooden bridges, quiet woods, wetlands, evidence of some VERY busy beavers 🦫 — and that wonderful feeling that you’ve stumbled onto a little piece of Kennebunk that not everybody knows about.

One of the things I love about living here is that apparently there are still new places waiting for me to discover.

If you’re staying with us and want a peaceful walk away from the crowds, add The Secret Garden to your list. 💚

Ben and Katie first stayed with us last year for their anniversary, and this year they decided to come back to White Sails to celebrate again.

But this time, Ben let me in on a little secret… he was planning to propose. ❤️

And she said YES!

There is something so special about having guests come back year after year — but getting to be a tiny part of a moment like this makes it even sweeter.

Congratulations, Ben & Katie! 🥂💕 We hope White Sails will always hold a little special place in your story.

A little peek behind the scenes of running a B&B…

Most guest rooms take about 40 minutes to prepare between stays. That includes changing all the linens, cleaning the bathroom, dusting, vacuuming, and making sure everything is fresh and welcoming for the next guests.

Occasionally, a room takes much longer. Extra cleaning—whether it’s decorative pillows, throws, furniture cushions, or other items that need attention—can turn a 40-minute turnover into an hour and a half.

Those few hours between checkout and check-in are when all of that happens. That’s why checkout and check-in times are so important. They aren’t arbitrary—they give us the time we need to prepare every room to the standard our next guests expect and deserve.

To the many guests who leave the room with such care and kindness, thank you. We notice, we appreciate it, and it truly makes a difference.
