The Gilded Drifter Inn Exceptional Accommodation in the Sierra Valley The Gilded Drifter is an 124 year old mansion on the edge of the largest alpine meadow in the Sierras.

Outside the Inn there is hiking, canoeing, snow shoeing, bird watching and more. Inside the Inn guests gather to cook and enjoy food, connect with loved ones, play games, listen to records, and borrow from the 4,000+ book collection.

If you want to visit before Halloween, this weekend is currently the only availability left. The colors are beautiful, the weather is perfect, and it’s a wonderful time to spend a few quiet days in the Lost Sierra.

One note: Drifter’s Table is closed this weekend and next, but there are still plenty of local options for dinner—Mountain Manna Pizza, Sierra Valley Bar & Grill, and Gonzo’s Frosty.

The Gilded Drifter Inn was built in 1898 and remained in the Rees family until 1951.

By the 1970s, and two owners later, the original front porches were removed. The family then added the front addition to be a Levi’s store and created the space for the lobby, Harte Room, and Wilde Room.
