Love the tours.

WILDLIFE VIEWING TOURS OFFERED

The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and the Friends of the Wichitas will be conducting interpretive "Wildlife Viewing" Tours in June. These tours will be offered Saturdays, June 10 and 24, 2023, at 5:30 pm and June 17 at 6:30 am. Tours will depart from the Visitor Center, located at the intersection of Highways 49 & 115. Reservations are required and are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

The public will have an opportunity to view wildlife on a bus tour of Pinchot Loop in the Special Use Area. A unique feature of this season is the young bison and longhorn calves. Reservations must be made in advance by calling (580) 429-2197 weekdays from 9:00 – 5:00 pm starting on June 5th. Reservations can be made for up to six individuals per group and children must be at least at least eight years of age to participate.

Once you have made your reservation, plan to arrive at the Visitor Center 30 minutes early to make sure that you will be on the bus. Reservations will be retained until 10 minutes before each scheduled program’s start time. After that time, standbys will be accepted. If the bus seating is filled after accepting standbys, late arrivals with reservations will not be able to participate in the program. Please note that restrooms are available at the Visitor Center before the tour begins, but no restrooms are available during the tours. Wheelchair access to the bus is available and should be requested at the time of reservation. Refuge tours may be cancelled or modified in the event of adverse weather. Cancelled tours will not be rescheduled.

🦌❄️ Winter Wildlife Watching at the Refuge

Winter is a magical time to observe wildlife at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. As the landscape quiets and the air turns crisp, many animals become easier to spot against the bare trees and frosted grasslands.

Look for bison grazing in the open, elk moving through the hills, and birds of prey soaring overhead. You might even catch a glimpse of deer, coyotes, or waterfowl along the lakes and streams.

Bring your binoculars, dress warmly, and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the season. Winter offers a unique chance to connect with nature in a whole new way.
