Local historian Matt Figi has taken a deep dive into the history of the Eugene Hotel for The Monroe Times. We are very grateful for his time doing this research. Here is part one(of four) of his findings!

If only these walls could talk…but because they can’t, we are hoping you will! We have recently partnered with students in The Launch Program at Monroe High School, to preserve your memories and stories of the Eugene Hotel back when it was still a hotel! A couple of ambitious, young, aspiring videographers are looking for individuals in the community who have a memory of the Eugene Hotel they’re willing to share on camera. If you or someone you know stayed here, worked here, ate here, or even just caused mischief in the lobby pranking the desk clerks, please comment below or message us, and our student partners will reach out to you to set up a time to capture your story. Work is coming along nicely at the hotel! The guys from J&J Mechanical Inc. got all of heat pump condensor units mounted on the roof so that every guest room and common space in the hotel will have it’s own, effective and efficient heating and cooling system! CG Schmidt has completed almost all of the wall framing and the in-wall mechanicals are largely completed, with drywall and CGR Painting LLC following right behind them. Our new elevator shaft is complete and waiting for the elevator to arrive and be installed. We will continue sharing progress pictures along the way, as we near our summer opening!

So many exciting things are happening in downtown Monroe! Just steps away from our soon-to-open lobby and main entrance, will now be a reformer Pilates studio! On that same block will also be a brand new salon in another completely remodeled building! And, across the square from us, another building is being restored to its original glory, and will house a self serve frozen yogurt parlor! So many new reasons to come and enjoy the already beautiful and historic downtown Monroe!

We have so much to be thankful for as we come to the end of 2025! The building is progressing along at a rapid pace, and starting to resemble what’s to come! The demo and structural rebuilding have nearly wrapped up, and the rebuilding phase is well underway! Structural shoring is being removed from the building, wall framing is happening on every floor, and rooms and hallways are taking shape! HVAC, electrical, plumbing, window restoration and painting are all underway and moving along quickly! As of now, we are still on schedule to finish construction in mid-June, and have our 25 rooms open to the public in July of 2026! Happy Holidays everyone!

It’s amazing how much progress is being made in building every day now! Most of the demolition is complete, and the rebuilding process of the hotel is underway! While there have been a lot of surprises already, it’s very exciting to see the building coming back to life with so many people working on it! Window restoration, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, structural shoring, and carpentry are all underway!
