Real question time!

What's stopping you from renting something from someone locally instead of buying it?

And if you own things you rarely use, what's stopping you from renting them out to make some extra money?

We're building Turnr around exactly this idea, and we want to understand what would make people actually use it.

Welcome back to “What’s on Turnr?” the mini-series where we show you that you probably don’t need to buy that thing you’re about to use twice.

Today: finding something to rent.

Need a tool? Party gear? A trailer? Something for the yard? Or one of those “I need this for exactly one Saturday” items?

Turnr makes it pretty simple:
Search for what you need
Set your location and how far you’re willing to travel
Browse by category if you’re not quite sure what you’re looking for
Check out what people nearby have available
Pick your dates and request to book

That’s it.

In our example, a quick search around Muskegon turns up a Mahindra subcompact tractor for $135/day.
Because sometimes you need a tractor.
You probably do not need to own a tractor. 😂

Wooo! What a beautiful weekend it has been. I love this time of year. The trees are changing, the weather is changing, and everything outside is not miserable to do!

I am going to kick off a mini-series of Turnr information to showcase some of the capabilities and the things I have made a part of the platform and what I am working on. I would love any and all feedback (good, bad, ugly, silly)!

Part 1: Sharing your listing!

Like with pretty much any app/website/platform you use there are share buttons everywhere. Since the beginning Turnr has had a Share Care that that captures your listing and makes it easy and attractive to share on social media, messaging, etc.

Well, it just got a face lift (as well as some more technical crap) to make it more attractive and more functional.

Check it out. Let me know your thoughts.

As always: if you have something laying around and want to make some money off of it, post it! If you need something temporary and want to keep it local, rent it!

A few days ago, we asked what devices you actually use. You gave us 146 votes and overwhelmingly told us: phones.

Then we asked how you want Turnr to get your attention when something important happens.
The early results:

🔔 Push notifications — 42%
📲 Text/SMS — 28%
📱 In-app notifications — 23%
📧 Email — 4%

Apparently email got invited to the party and immediately went to sit alone in the corner. 😂

This is exactly why we're asking.
We can sit behind a computer and decide what we think people want, or we can ask the people who might actually use Turnr and build accordingly.
