Down the hall from the Great Room, the Library is one of the quieter spots on the property — leather armchairs, good afternoon light, a stack of books nobody's rushing to finish. Guests use it to read after a day in Yosemite, and wedding parties use it to get ready before the ceremony on the Lawn. Either way, it's worth finding.

Nelder Grove, 8.5 miles up Road 632, one of our favorite short trips from the ranch. A handful of hikes, each under a mile, lead you past Bull Buck — one of the largest giant sequoias in the grove — and past stumps left over from logging in the late 1800s. At the interpretive center, two original cabins have been restored — a good look at what the logging camps here were like in the 1800s. Give yourself an hour or two and bring water.

The Cowboy Tavern, dressed for a night out. Stone fireplace, elk antlers over the mantel, candlelight on every table — this room does a lot of the work for you. Beam ceilings up top, wood floors underfoot, a bar in the corner.

We host private events here — rehearsal dinners, holiday parties, birthdays, buyouts for bigger groups. Twelve miles from Yosemite's South Entrance if your guests are making a weekend of it.
