The spiraled butternut squash gave me the perfect opportunity to have a Lady and the Tramp moment with my alpaca, Bake, and also my goat, Beans.

The end shows what I’ve been working on tirelessly the last couple of months 🥰 Coming soon!

My alpacas produce anywhere from 4-7lbs of fiber each every year. With that, I have it processed at a mill and then I create + sell their goods. Theo Von even got an alpaca made from Mac and Cheese’s fiber ☺️

I got my three Pygoras sheared and nails trimmed over two days. My back is shot! My girls were a great help. Pepsi got upset when I was trimming around his peepers and broke my shears. He still has fiber on his head because of this. I’ll get those replaced and get back to finishing him by this weekend.

Pygoras are goats that produce cashmere. They get sheared twice a year, because (unlike the alpacas) they release their fiber if it isn’t cut off. No goats were harmed during this process. Can’t say the same for my oldest daughter… Pepsi’s jacket we put on him was too small. She was helping me catch him and he dragged her into the carport. The metal tore two of her fingernails and she passed out. It was scary for this momma’s heart. She is okay though!

Well, butternut squash was a flop for the alpacas… except Bake! I couldn’t keep him away! I think the spirals turned them off but Bake didn’t mind it.

Guard alpacas on duty 💁🏻‍♀️

Banana squash was a huge hit! Everyone absolutely loved it. Pt 2 coming for the goats, because it took way too long with the alpacas 🤪

We shear the alpacas once a year. That falls in May for us, before it gets too warm. After that is done, I sort and skirt their fiber. Skirting removed debris, second cuts, and lower quality pieces. After that is done, I take it to the mill. They turn the alpaca fiber into yarn and also dryer balls, of which I sell. Alpaca fiber can be turned into apparel, rugs, blankets, woven goods, and more. I just choose yarn I crochet into hats and dryer balls because those are the items I love best :)

The alpacas gave us lots of lip lickies for papaya!

Coconut was a pain in the butt to get to and then it was gross and slimy to touch. I’m never doing this one again, but at least the alpacas liked it.
